I'm no biologist but have been wondering about this: A vast majority of animals and ofcourse humans need a male and a female to reproduce. Ofcourse, potential arises that there might be problems in reproduction (for example, diseases passed on by one of the parents, required effort etc).
On the other hand, a very few animals can have asexual reproduction. I'd think that would be a LOT more efficent in terms of reproduction , for one, no need for a mate and plus 100 percent of kids will be child-bearing instead of 50 percent.
So considering asexual production to be more efficent, as life evolved on our planet, I wonder how did it lose out to hetrosexuality?
PS. Please don't bring religion in the discussion since this is posted in the Science forum.
Did u ask the same q's to your parents? cuz if they'd have thought abt it, you wudnt be asking this q's today, No offense though!

Why Have Sex ?
before to answer this question I need replies to the following questions.
Why do we need to Sleep?
Why do we need to Eat ?
Why do dreams come while we sleep ?
Why do we See with our Eyes , although there are animals , that donot use eyes to realize/see things ?
Why cannot we Hear to Sounds less than 20Htz and More than 20000Hz ?
What do Invisibility and Invisiblity means in Science in respect of Humain Eyes ?
ah com'n now, the possibility of asexual production(IvF's test tube babies artificial sperms or whatever) only came into being recently..this wasnt an option like some 100 or more years back...so even if we do resort to these means what about those who in the olden days didnt have this option?
and arent there the unwanted side effects?..am not sure what they are at present though..havent gone through it for a long time
let's talk about this only if it were applicable through all the generations ie in both the ascending/descending order..
maybe off topic, but its informative,"only humans and dolphins do sex for pleasure other than reproduction necessity, all the other animals do sex for reproduction only."
Most likely you have not seen donkeys and dogs in heat.
