I am sorry for having offended a fellow pakistani (i did say i wasn’t sure if it was a paki thing or not).. but what i wrote was based on my own experience now that i am settled in karachi (i grew up in australia, where the parent’s permission would be sought to even touch/ hold the baby)… i’ve experienced people trying to put their fingers in my baby’s mouth 2/3 times already, it is beyond gross.

No its not a “paki” thing nor the world begins or ends at desis or everything desis do!

Above is a very popular picture of Princess Diana with her finger in Prince William’s mouth and if you go type Prince William’s christening on YouTube you can clearly see in the video that she keeps the finger in baby’s mouth. As far as I remember, the British media did not shred her into pieces for following such a backward desi practice.

You do realize a mother putting her finger in her baby’s mouth is very very different from total strangers doing the same thing?

I don’t think it’s per se about who does/did a certain thing.

It is the false labelling of random happenings to a population what annoys (well atleast I find it very annoying).

Maybe people should hang out with people from other ethnicities more, and they will see that a lot of things are universal rather than specific for a certain race.
