IMHO, human rights, respect, dignity, freedom, individual rights and the right to practice one's relgion freely and openly, should have nothing whatsoever to do with one's faith.
That means when we greet each other, pray for each other, help each other, attend funerals, etc should not be predicated by the other's faith. I find that to be self-righteous and contradictory to God's will.

I agree with you a 100%. I think that the post which you had commented on meant something entirely different.
i}it might have something to do with social equality, and respect.
Being a muslim, you are treated equally and with respect by other muslims who are respectful, at least, of Islam. *
dont take it to mean that muslims should only treat other muslism with respect but more along the lines that a person who converted would get the respect which he could not get from his previous religious group because of race, cast, etc etc.
i.e. if I am an untouchable and treated as such by people in my faith, I can become a muslim and not be treated like an untouchable by people of my new faith.
there is no evidense muslims are less prejudicial than others just because the religen says all muslims are equal . why then bangaldesh
and west pakistanis are split? if yoy have treated them equally or shared power according to population % they would not have separated.
mo_best, I am not a boxing fan, so no I don't follow his speeches. Though I did read quiet a few articles about it & they seemed to suggest that his convertion was a publicity stunt to be like Muhammad Ali. Haven't really heard anything about him in the recent past.

Thats because your country interfered... Anywayz, the best thing that ever happened in this region was all those hindus and buddhists that converted to Islam, and then they ultimately split your mother india into two chunks, and finally we were free of hindus... Azaadi!!!

true, muslims may not be less prejudicial as others, but theere is no rocial or ethnic superiority in religion and no concept of castes. Now if someone comes to me and says I am superior to you because I am ana rab muslim, i would chuckle because his words are completely against what is said i.e. no one has preference based on such factors but preference is only based on how piuos you are and only Allah knows that. Whereas in hinduism the sect concept is sanctioned by the religious establishment.
When i pray, there are people of all walks of life and all races and ethnicities next to me, ther eis no divide, when i go for pilgrimage, its the same.

Youa re correct, ground realities are different. Whether it is applicatyion of Indian constitution or whether it is how its done in pakistan where we have discussed the continuing existence of a caste system , although not sanctioned by religion but still around.
Its kinda like if a black south african of apartheid era decides to move to US because of the all men are created equal part. The ground reality may be that he still faces some discrimination and racism, but its not sanctioned by law and not among generally accepted principles. You can however use the letter of the law to try and sheild yourself a bit ore than you would have been able to doin South Africa.

I think we are both saying the same thing

Pakistan has caste system and discrimination – bigger problem than India.
People of some ëlowí castes like barbers and leather workers, however, one soon learns that they believe other Pakistanis are Muslim in name only and do not really believe in their equality.
Higher caste Gujars were people who tended cows and goats, however do not tend livestock themselves. They own land. their occupation is to own land not to work on it directly. They will not touch animals and rely on trusted ëmuj-walasí to feed, water and maintain the health of their animals.
Caste system exists in Pakistan - but they just try and hide it under the false pretense of Islam.
the discussion is islam, and islam is not limited to Pakistan. In practise prejudice and all may exist but it is not religiously sanctioned.
as I said its the example of aparthied era south africa and USA. a black south african may not be treated with no prejudice here, but thats his right which is being violated by not being treated equally, not a right which was never given to him to begin with in the case of south africa.
I mean hey if we want to have just a general bashing, thats a diff thing, but if we are discussing thngs we can take off some blinders and be forthright and objective.

southern sudan they will still find slavery. religen is different from how
it is practised at ground level.
