It has nothing to do with showing off. It’s more to do with having someone who understand the stress of the job and the strenuous work hours, which is why doctors often marry other doctors or other medical professionals.

not true all the time. my husband is a doctor, I am not. many doctors don’t want to marry doctors because then both of them would be working too much and will never have time for each other.
my mom is a doctor and my father is not either.

I have heard both of these things when it comes specifically to doctors. Some parents/bachelors/bacholerettes prefer that they marry a doctor as well and at the same time the reverse is true as well. It’s their own choice at the end of the day. One shouldn’t pursue a rishta solely because the potential is a doctor and it means $$$. The real money doesn’t come until the person’s well into their 30’s.
