I’v been thinking about this question for a while, and I can’t seem to find the answer.
We all know that women living in India esp- face and have faced inequality in many aspects of their life.We also know that indira gandhi was able to become India’s first female prime minister. My question is that, why didn’t Indira use her position and power to help women in her own country.
Was it that being a female prime minister in itself a challenge. That had she helped other females, it would have been looked on as a weakness on her part?
because even thoguth she was the prime minister, maybe she did nto have popular support among other leaders, or personal interest in these issues, similare to Benazir Bhutto whose track record was petty shoddy when it came to women's rights and development as well. wonder if other countries have had diff experiences.

But she wanted to help her people. And helping the women should have been at the top of her list. How come she didnt make any contributions that are heard of? Well when it comes to politics, there is always opposition from others.Even if she didnt have popular support from other leaders-Why should that have stopped her?
Some people believe that had she helped other women, she might have been seen as a weak leader.A leader who was running the nation by emotion rather than logic.
Are all female leaders judged in this way when it comes to politics?
1) is the leader a sincere leader- and to be honest I dont know if I can say that for either Indira, or Benazir. I will not comment on Indira as I dont know much about her era, but in Benazir's case, if she did not do much to help masses at large that shows the lack of sincerity..women's betterment would be a long shot.
2) Ability to stay on as a leader, there are so many other people involved, so many ppl you dont want to piss off and in doing so, maybe she appeased the type of tribal vadera types and their cronies who would see this as an affront. and with all the politicking 24/7 no wonder issues of national importance get swept under the carpet.
