Why Cant India Produce A Fast Bowler?

going by mo_best and armughal's reasoning, eskimos must be producing some real whacky pace bowlers. after all, their diet is almost entirely meat.

now why doesnt meat eating pakistan produce even one world class athelete? probably coz they dont eat any pasta.. tsk tsk

We are the ones that take pride in a person like Jansher or Jehangir Khan, not some wannabe tennis player who wins the mediocre tournamnets... Bara aya indian world class athlete...

A population of over a billion and they can't produce a single quality seam bowler in their history let alone a world-class FAST bowler.

The best they have ever had has been Kapil Dev and as a bowler he was nothing special if one looks at his stats: the two most important stats for a bowler--other than wickets taken are the rate at which they are taken (strike rate) and the cost (average). Though Kapil took a lot of wickets (he played 131 matches) they were quite costly and took a lot of balls per wicket:

TEST BOWLING
o r w bb av 5wm 10wm sr
4623.2 12867 434 9-83 29.65 23 2 63.92

Average was 26.95 and strike rate was 63.92 (of course as an ALLROUNDER he was v. good but we are talking of India's bowling only here); these are average figures when compared to the world's best!

Let us look at Srinath then--prob. India's 'fastest' bowler ever:

TEST BOWLING
o r w bb av 5wm 10wm sr
2464.2 7069 232 8-86 30.47 10 1 63.7

SR: 63.7, Average: 30.47!
for a strike bowler--and an opening bowler it is pathetic!

My question is WHY?! I mean we (Pakistan) have a much smaller population and have yet produced three of the all time great fast bowlers (Imran, Wasim, Waqar) already and currently have the fastest bowler in the game's history (Shoaib) and plenty more waiting in the wings!!

And it is bowlers which win matches. I think it might be something to do with culture as well as dietary--fast bowlers are bullies by nature (according to Viv and Lillee) and it is not the Hindu mentality to be agressive and strong (unless the other is weak); I am not trying to be racist here just making observations--notice that the only guy who MIGHT be an Indian paceman in the making--is Zaheer Khan--a Muslim!
Lillee said fast bowlers a born--something to do with them having more fast-twitching muscle fibres or something...perhaps that is it...

when Indians started winning ....!!!!

The suggestion that Indians (Hindus) are genetically unable to be fast bowlers has won me over.

I think some people are too ignorant. They dont even know that 13-14 % of India's population is Muslim, 2-3 % is Christian, 2 % is sikh.

What about hinduism, buddhism, and many more religions that exist in india?

india wich it puto tey religion nikal da

It must just be an Indian thing then, cos amontst that huge minority ofd some 200 million you still havent had 1 good pace bowler, but crap batsmen like JACOB MARTIN.

His selection was a joke yeah?

So basically mo_best you are saying no mater what ever religion, cast they belong to but as long as they are indian then there ain’t going to be a fast bowler? :hehe:

He's got it, by George I think he's got it!

And Sachin Tendulkar,Sunil Gavaskar etc are from your Country. :hehe:

About Jacob Martin - Ask your Bowlers how good he is, They got some taste of his willow last time they toured India  (You wish you had a batsman and a fielder like him)

Thanks Moderator :)

The last time I remember about Jacob Martin against Pakistani bowlers, he scored 10, 16, 39.

Oh those are great scores! Shabaash! :k:

Then again it must standout because all other Indian batsmans fail miserably against Pakistani bowlers.

Your records in Tennis are ordinary!
Nobody gives a damn about double man's champions.
Do you think any tennis fan here in US knows the names of Leander Paes or Mahesh Gopati.
They all know who is sampras, ivanisavic or rafter are.

Our record in Squash is grand slam, we have the best in the world, singles.

lets see India population = 1 billion.
with that population Indians should be atleat in the top 10 of medals tally in the olympics, not even in top 30.

Dude, Do you consider Olympics as Prestigious ?? We have one Olympic Bronze medal winner in Tennis and in Singles.

About Doubles Tournament - All I have to say to you is SOUR GRAPES :hehe:

Puttar - If they dont know then how come Martina Navratilova is playing with Leander Paes and the Stadium was Full.

I watched the Davis Cup match of Leander Vs Andy Roddick - You should have listened to Roddick and other Players and American commentators as well what they had to say about Leander.

Since you talk about Squash so much and with due respect to to Jansher and Jahangir and other legends - How many people outside Pak have heard their names ??

well biggest reason is obviuosly meat and vegitarain thing...
koi manay na maanay....
protiens hee nahi hongay body main tu musecles kya banay gain...
