Re: Why 5 salats...

***If I remember rightly, he was carrying the NUR of ALLA swt in his eyes so Musa AS could 'see' ALLAH SWT. Remember how he always wanted to see ALLAH SWT but did not possess the strength to? And it is believed that on mi'raaj there was no hijaab btwn ALLAH SWT and His Beloved.
Unfortunately , I cannot recite any hadith for u as I only remember this from a jalsa i attended at the masjid which was on the auspicious event of the mi'raaj.

C'mon PSYAH bhai.....elaborate!!

Peace Jhanjharewali Sister

I think the person from the jalsa may have added a bit of spice to the story and there are some misconceptions regarding the Nur of Allah (SWT). There is a hadith about this event and Muhammad (SAW) was asked if he saw Allah (SWT), he replied, 'how could I see ... for there was all that light?' According to the correct understanding the Nur of Allah (SWT) is the barrier between Allah (SWT) and everything else it is called The Veil. Musa (AS) for that reason did not see Allah (SWT) in the eyes of Muhammad (SAW).

The reason why it is seen that Musa (AS) asked Muhammad (SAW) was because he knew from his own experiences that the people would not be willing to accept the 5 daily prayers. How correct he was. Muhammad (SAW) may not have had that insight because he was given the best people of the best ummah. His companions were prepared to do a lot for Islam, but not all prophets have had the same sort of support. Muhammad (SAW) also did not disagree with Musa (AS) he knew that the requests being made were reasonable and did not go back only because he felt shame, not because he thought that the reason given by Musa (AS) was wrong.

It is a misconception to assume that Muhammad (SAW) knows more than all the previous prophets about everything and it should be understood that Muhammad (SAW) viewed his own predecessors not as lesser people but rather as fathers because they were born earlier in the long family of prophets.
