anyways...i think whatever the best that this field is going to cough up, is only going to be a punching bag for W, kinda like dole/kemp were for clinton/gore.. you knew there was no way they were actually goign to win.

Even if you think this bunch can't win doens't mean Bush can't lose.

UTD, is he beatable sure..
i mean the decision approach may nto be to pick the best of the 2 options, but the less worse of two options..

is he beatable, defintely, does he have some major money behind him, defintely..and that plays a role also.

I am not talking about people like yourself, but people who will vote just based on some slogan, or just oen thing that sticks to their mind..whether the war on terror card is played bigtime to woo such ppl, or whatever.

so can he lose..sure, is it likely. At this point i have to say no.

True Mr. Fraudia, people never fail to disappoint.

At this point no one is running against him.

..except himself.. if you know what i mean :)

What Ford was physically Bush is mentally.

Fraudia:
Good observation on that slogan thing. The GOP is pretty darn good at coming up with those catchy slogans that resonate with the voters. Remember Reagan trouncing Carter with the simple "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" Man, he punched a hole right through Carter with that one.

Then, "Stay the Course" was a powerful message that helped trounce Mondale.

It'll be interesting to see what slogan GW uses.

Dad had "Read My Lips, No New Taxes"

MV my personal favourite slogan was on a political bumper sticker i saw in 1992

piccard/riker 1992- make it happen :D

Reagen's slogan is in my view one of the best ever used. but then Regen had a knack for not only the right slogans, but teh right delivery... "tear down these walls" coming from GHWB, GWB, or Carter would just not seem right... slick willie {i]may* have been able to pull it off. so Reagen had good writers but he could deliver those lines like no one else.

just to be fair. do you recall what slogans booted GHWB out and served as a campaign killer for dole?

Gores was 'Lick Bush in 2000'...to bad the poor guy is married to Tipper.

Suggestion for Bush, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste.".

Such a classic…

Are you referring to the one cited by UTD? "Read My Lips, No New Taxes." Actually, that was an effective slogan (campaign platform) too that helped get GHWB elected in the first election. He killed his chances of coming up with a good slogan against Clinton by going back on that promise. His second election slogan might as well have been "If my lips move, you know I'm lieing."

I don't remember Clinton having a slogan in his reelection against Dole. Maybe it's a bad memory for me so I'm blocking it out. What was Clinton's re-election slogan?

Dean sucks bigtime - the guy is mean nasty and started attacking the candidates first - however Dean and Gephardt did agree to end their feud via negative commercials.

only John Edwards has not attacked any candidates - Dean did attack him - and apologized to him later - and this is i think one of the reasons John has done well in his campagin - also he was endorsed by the largest Iowa news paper(Des Moines register) on last Monday - i have no idea how did Kerry's campagin got momentum.

last i heard - all four top candidates(Gephardt, Dean, Edwards and Kerry) are essentially tied - the race is getting intense.

GO GEPHARDT!

The news this mornings, puts the four top candidates in the following order:

  1. Kerry
  2. Edwards
  3. Dean
  4. Gephart

Interesting, I must say. I am hoping Edwards do well. He has really come from behind on this one, if this poll stays true. I have doubts about this though, cz its by Des Moines Register who had endorsed Edwards a few days ago. And in any case, with the margin of error, its all a bit of statistical gameplay, and nothing more. We'll know more by tonight, I guess.

MV

Thanks for the reminder of "no new taxes". but i was thinking about political slogans used by their opponents. I dont remember what they were either. Not because of memory, its just that i did not givea damn about politics then cuz i could nt vote here anyways. I followed the british politics more closely.

anyone know what time the results (preliminary and/or final) will be announced?

This close 4 or 5 way race helps the dems btw, because it generate interest in what was otherwise a lackluster race. Good 4 them.

Totally agree here.

Good for Dems.

Kerry wins. Can he raise money now that the house has been mortgaged?

Edwards second. (and perhaps the nights biggest winner). Money will role in over the next few weeks.

Dean who? The beginning of the end here. The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Gephardt withdraws, who will he endorse?

Sharpton, Leiberman, Congressman Moonbeam, who cares...

Where is Clark?

 Kerry wins

 Edwards second

OG as a wise man mentioned earlier there have been times that ppl who did not lead the iowa caucus eventually won the party endorsement and the presidency :)
