Who should muslims endorse as President?

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

That's interesting. I wonder how many U.S. Blacks are NOI vs. orthodox Muslims. I would guess the orthodox is most likely the majority.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

^what is an orthodox muslim? Care to elaborate?

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

Republicans are good for Pakistan and it is in Pakistan's strategic interest that republicans win in 2008. Republicans have always had a good rapport with our military rulers. That means Pakistani-Americans ought to vote for the republicans

Democrats tend to be very pro-india. In 2000, Clinton visited india for 5 days and stopped in Pakistan for 5 hours. And obama has plans to attack north-west Pakistan

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

... whoever asks :)

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

I will probably vote for Obama. But I suspect muslim-hatin' McCain gonna win somehow.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

I'm sorry Faisal, but I'm not part of any silly voting bloc. If McCain comes out tomorrow and says Musharraf is a good leader - does it make him pro-Islam? If he comes out and says Sudan's government is bad - does it make him anti-Islam? Voting blocs are stupid as it is, and religious voting blocs are even stupider. No economic policy, no health care, no tax policies... in the end you're just voting based on a few specks of religious comfort:

To be frank, I dont care what CAIR thinks and I find it shameful that people vote based on endorsements. For me atleast, an election is more than a shoe endorsement. It's about sitting down and deciding which shoe is the best fit for you... it's not about running off to the store and buying a pair of shoes because Michael Jordan said they'd fit you perfectly.

Anyway recently I've learnt to vote with two hands in my pocket. Yeah it's sorta selfish, but you know what? It works. Whichever candidate can make my hands feel safe enough to get out of my pockets, pick up a pencil, and check off box gets my vote.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

That's not necessarily true.

In the 2000 elections, studies have found that the majority of African American Muslims voted for Bush, as he was seen as being more friendly towards Muslims than Gore. Furthermore, its likely that the Muslim voting bloc in certain key battleground states (among them Florida) actually won Bush the election...so I don't think its fair to say that the Muslim vote is entirely insignificant.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

^ To be nitpicking, I don’t think you can vote in US elections anyway  Bad moi… thats not what I should be saying. :stuck_out_tongue: I think your point is a valid one. A lot of muslims belong to this school of thought. I am sure most of them do realize that if they keep believing that, then these people should not then say “oh jews have such a hold over US politics. Oh Indians have such a strong lobby… why can’t muslims have such strong lobby in US Congress/White House”. Well, obviously muslims have lousy lobbying in US Capitol, because we don’t want to be part of “any silly voting bloc”. If you are not a bloc, then you have no use. No one is going to court your vote. There is no time to listen to your issues, because you are not important or have enough numbers to make you interesting. You will always be just one person to whom generic tv ads can be thrown. If an immigration officer strip searches you at JFK and makes you wait for 6 hours while he does a background check on you, all because you are brown muslim and your dad was originally from Pakistan, then its just your frikkin’ problem. No candidate cares for your problem, because you are just one man. You can keep issues important to yourself to yourself. No one cares.

Having said that, I do think that in these '2008 elections, having any kind of muslim bloc vote is not going to happen. Situation is too fluid and neither candidates offers any good deal. Obama will likely squeak through more muslim votes, because of his perceived views on domestic civil rights; and likely he won’t go around bombing all over the world (except Pakistan :smack: ). We’ll see.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

I think a vast majority of US muslims just won't go to vote.

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

ron paul or ralph nader

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

I heard Obamas speech it stated something like

We dont have to bow down under pressure of some petty dictator

is he referring to Mushi ?

Re: Who should muslims endorse as President?

No idea. You should hear/read speeches in their full context.
