Re: Who is responsible for the proliferation of the intelligence agencies in Pakistan
Name is not the main thing.
We saw their first visible act as assassination of Liaqat Ali Khan.

Re: Who is responsible for the proliferation of the intelligence agencies in Pakistan
^I don't agree, more likely it was either just Liaqat Alis misfortune of being at the wrong place at the wrong time or equally likely a power tussle between him trying to exert central authority over the Punjab and certain feudal afctions in the province that opposed him..
Re: Who is responsible for the proliferation of the intelligence agencies in Pakistan
Proliferation!
I say we need more of them specially to fight militancy. The only problem is that they are being dragged into politics instead of letting them do their job.

Excessive duplication isn't good icon...ideally the ISI should be a civilian led intelligence agency and not a military led one. The Military already has the Military intelligence and that should suffice.
Re: Who is responsible for the proliferation of the intelligence agencies in Pakistan
Am afraid when it comes to national security civilians have no clue.
I wouldnt like Rehman Malik to be controlling ISI.

Why would an untrained military man fare any better? The ISI doesn't have a dedicated pool of intelligence ops , it rotates people from the armes forces. Most intelligence agencies havea dedicated pool and an independent civilian head who is accountable to others.
Re: Who is responsible for the proliferation of the intelligence agencies in Pakistan
Do we have trained personnel?
Do we have trained personnel?
No but ideally we should have a special group who are trained in intelligence gathering, espionage and counterespionage.
Instead we get a Ziaist led ISI which since the 1980;s has focussed on messing up Afghanistan, waging proxy wars with India and waging battle to control the political landscape through political proxys

The most effective national security agencies in the world are run by civilians - MI5,MI6,Mossad, CIA, etc.
The ISI,MI have only looted and killed their own people, and destabilised the democratic system every time it starts to bear fruit, so they could keep looting and killing

Dragged???
Nobody forces the Army/agencies to do anything.
The Army/agencies are very happy to be involved in politics to sustain their looting and power

If you did not support a family run stage show of a political party the highlighted section would be so credible.
How can one have a democratic system when most of the polical party leaders in Pakistan have turned it into a family business?
*Why dont you wake up and sell the coffee people like Benazir and her foreign born and bred bacha do not have a divine right to rule and cant do a thing for Pakistan. *
It is easy to blame the intelligence agencies but i presume they also forced the PPP to become a family party and those MILLIONS OF ASSETS into Zardari/Bhutto's accounts.

What do you call a successful intelligence agency? Your telling me CIA, Mossad's actions have never resulted in unnecessary death?

Afghanistan was already messed up. I dont agree with all those unnecessary deaths caused by ISI policies AND other intelligence agencies involved in Afghanistan but it was either them or us.
India has hardly been a good neighbour. Neither India or Afghanistan will ever accept Pakistan. The Kashmir situation was a thorn in India's side and a succesful one for that period.
