Yeah but Swiss do not have ‘wonderful’ neighbours (incl. India and Afghanistan (can never trust them esp. the Afghan government)) like us. Japan is an island, so they do not really need a strong army

Swiss lived with the worst neighbors then India/Afghan - German Empire, French Empire, Austrians & on top of that Imperial USSR. They able to navigate through first & second world wars.
