Re: Which way is Pakistani Media going?
I personally have no issues with the stuff they show as long as it doesn't stray extraordinarily from normal sensibilities. Televesion programming primarily has to be creative and entertaining. However, recently the trend has been to totally emphasise on what they call "glamor" -- read cheapness and loads of sex and titillation. Scripts, stories, acting and the basic theme/concept behind the serials have taken a backseat, that is, if they haven't been shooed off into oblivion altogether. It's easy, it's quick it rakes in the moolah, but it's not even the least bit entertaining [some people, apparently, get kicks out of ogling at the "hunks" and the "babes" showcased, I guess that's as far as entertainment goes!]. But Pakistanis have partially to blame themselves for it, the way they've taken to those trash-soaps from you-know-where. For now, we really don't have consumer-interest groups in Pak to lobby these channels so I guess we will have to bear with it. And then not all channels are going the sleaze way, like HUM which is doing a good job as far as sticking to the traditional drama code is concerned.
