Which 20th Century King led a war against himself?

Re: Which 20th Century King led a war against himself?

Not at all. When both countries left, they became commonwealth realms, independent kingdoms that shared the same Monarch.

King George VI was the head of state, represented in Pakistan by his Governor-General, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Because neither Pakistan nor India had their own constitutions at the time, they adopted the same form of independence as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Newfoundland were given in 1931 - independent kingdoms, with separate Monarchies but filled with the same people.

India put together a republican constitution in 1950, but Pakistan only became a republic in 1956.

Ever wondered what Jinnah’s title of Governor-General of Pakistan legally meant? He was King George’s representative in Pakistan… legally speaking, he acted in place of and on behalf of the King.

Indeed, one of the titles conferred on Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953, alongside Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen of Canada, Queen of South Africa, Queen of Australia was… Queen of Pakistan.

It was only 3 years after her coronation that the Pakistani government ceased to acknowledge her as the Head of State, and made Pakistan into a republic.
