Was his name 'Abdul Qader Junejo' or 'Abdul Tarrar Junejo' or 'Abdul Tareq Junejo' something like that?
Muhammad Khan Junejo (late)
Re: Where were you?
By the end of May 1977, the PNA movement had died down to a great extent and talks between them and PPP began. Then all of a sudden on a quiet day, Zia came in.
Re: Where were you?
Through an Indian eyes:-
I remember Zia's death came on news paper. It was a time when we all grew up with anti-Pak sentiments .In the morning I only grabbed the news papaer ,and on that in the headlines, stuck my eyes and I still rememmber shouting almost jubiliant( :D well that was a different time,I was just 9 years old and Mr.Zia himself was posing as an Anti-Indian,making provocative statements,we had our warm relations with U.S.S.R :) and it was having war with Afghan Mujahideens)and told my cousin(he was very elder to me but still we discussed International and National matters)that Zia had been killed in an air crsh.
Later BB and NS governments,I remember but not their `ruling demiss'.I rememmebr we had a quiz compeitition in School in which a question about NS had been there. :)
Zulfiqar Bhutto:
I was young enough to remember anything of Bhutto's fate.
*Junejo Government: *
I remember Junejo, he looked calm and was respected. We were living in interior Sind then and many people liked him a lot and they were very surprised when Zia fired him for no good reason.
General Zia:
I remember Zia and hated him to the core, just like many other karachi'ites. I remember people chanting and distributing sweets when he got killed in the plane crash. I remember the PTV's commentator crying over his funeral procession.
First Benazir Govt:
The thing that i remember most from BB's first government was her real bad Urdu. Though i really felt proud of Pakistan being the first and only islamic country having a female leader. I remember her meeting Bush(Sr) in D.C. I remember the day when GIK fired her over corruption charges, we were in Multan and were travelling to Bhawalpur, heard it over the car radio and we were all stunned.
First Nawaz Sharif Govt:
I remember the wrangling between this moron, GIK and Justice Shah. He was fired, Balkh Sheikh Mazari came in as a care taker, he was reinstated to be fired again. I remembered his final speech and also GIK's speech of resignation.
Second Benazir Govt:
I remember the 1993 elections, i remember the PTV's mid night election broadcast and i remember PPP winning. I remeber Benazir praising Farooq Leghari in many of her interviews. I remember many of BB's corrupt ministers, horse trading and Mr 10 percent and stories of Surrey Palace. I remember her walking besides Tansu Ciller of Turkey while Bilawal and Bakhtawar holding her hands. And i remember the day when Farooq Leghari fired her in a PTV speech over corruption charges. We all thought how come a President from your own party fire you.
Second Nawaz Govt:
Things i like to remeber most from his second tenure are the "Kargil Issue" and the "Atomic Bomb". I remember his party taking the whole country hostage with their looting and corruption. I remember Vajpayee meeting him in Lahore and he trying to become the champion of "Kashmir dispute". I remeber him meeting Cllinton in his long black Sherwani and looking like a clown. And i remember the day when he got ousted by Musharraf. I was outside in the market , when somebody told me that he is ousted in a coup and i in all my disbelief asked them to stop lieing. Then saw all of it over the PTV. The next day i told my friends that they are slaughtering the democracy and all of them told me that i am an idiot if i think there was a democracy in this country before.
Mushy's resignation:
Well i just don't care now any more.
My country deserves what my country men and women sow.
Zulfiqar Bhutto:
He died before I was born, but I have seen youtube videos of him & from what I heard & read about him he wasn't the most brilliant guy, but another opportunist crook.

Total confusion on that October night. Someone called us to say, "Nawaz has fired the CnC". Huh?? Then someone else called and said "Martial law lagg giya!!" Huh, again... Switched on the television, and no one was sure whats going on. By around 11 pm, it was beginning to get clear that NS has lost and Mushy is in. Mushy's 'plane was about to land in Karachi. TV was not sure whats going on, till 1:30 am, when a uniformed Mushy came on the screen and announced that he is taking over. People were shown celebrating in the streets. People ALWAYS celebrate. Our nation misses no opportunity to eat mithai, it seems.

I was in college library when I saw headline on CNNs website saying something like "army chief takes over nuclear armed Muslim nation". I called home & told my dad about military coup in Pakistan & he was like "gunja had it coming".
Re: Where were you?
It will be interesting if ehsan bhai makes an entry here. He'd probably start with Pakistan movement! :D
Re: Where were you?
^ More like the time when Bahadur Shah Zafar was exiled :)
I don't remember specific events, but i do have some random thoughts
ZAB: I could go on for hours with stories I'd heard about ZAB..from friends and opponents.
Zia: To say he was disliked by my friends and family would be an understatement..
NS 1st term: I distinctly remember how people used to mock NS and then when he gave that famous speech "I will not accept dictation"..he turned overnnight from a GHQ inc politician to an anti establishment politician.
NS 2nd term: I remember a few months before his dismissal Aslam Beg gave an interview "The army does not forgive an insult" ..speaking of Karamats ouster..on the actual day I remember being online and "spooks" had hacked the punj\ab provincial govt web site along with a few others. It was Pakistans first internet coup...
Loh Faisal jee hum aa gaye:D
Ayub Khan:
was in uni those days and after a 9 months long movement one day it was announced that he would be addressing the nation . Most of the people gathered around their radios (TV was a rarity in those days). it was rumoured that he might resign but not many people were expecting him to hand over to another general and martial law was imposed with Yahya Khan incharge.
Yahya Khan:
Lost power in the aftermath of the 1971 debacle which split the country. There was absolute confusion as to what was going on till it was announced that Bhutto was at the helm of the affairs of the country.
Bhutto:
I was in UK at the time and switched on TV in the morning and heard that coup had taken place in Paksitan and Bhutto had been deposed.
before his execution there was a lot of speculation and all world leaders were appealing to Zia to spare his life and the news of his execution came as a shock because not many people believed to the last that he was going to hang Bhutto. Again heard the news on BBC TV in the morning.
ZIA:
Heard his news on radio in Saudi. Cant say I was shocked or disappointed. The worst ruler Paksitan ever had.
I was however sad and shocked at the number of military and other personnel we lost in that crash.
BB (Twice) and NS (Twice)
Heard on TV and really was indifferent to their fate. They got what they deserved.
Musharraf
switched on to GEO TV in the morning and they had breaking news that president was to address the nation at 1pm. Heard his hour long speech, wished he would hurry up and resign.
Re: Where were you?
Bhutto: I was just 3 years old so i guess i was playing around when he was sacked and later hanged
Zia: I moved to Germany with parents. My Mamu came rushed to our house smiling all over the face and shouting the words "kana mar giya". I can safely say i was happy as this guy was one of the worst leader when it comes to Ahmadis. He said at that time he "would finish off the 90 years old fitna".
BB 1st + 2nd and NS 1st + 2nd : I Heard on German radio and later on watched it on TV especially the 1999 October coup.
Mush: Got the news wheni came back home from Office. Was surprised a bit and a bit sad becoz knowing what kinda thugs AZ + NS r one can only repeat Mushy's words. Pakistan ka Allah hi hafiz.
Re: Where were you?
Zulfiqar Bhutto:
No recollection except later in life my mamoo was die hard supporter of him and use to tell his charisma etc
Junejo Government:
Was in school and i think junejo was comming back from Japan tour, he was sacked and he went home quitely, there were rumours that PM was trying for more rights and getting rid of Zia. My Family voted for his party PML
General Zia:
Wasnt home, heard the news and later watched the immotional commentry by Azhar Lodhi. many were happy about it atlast martial law and fake islamisation is over.
First Benazir Govt:
I still remember BB comming to Lahore and her truck journey, first it was too many people, secondaly me and my friends had to walk to home from school cause of traffic jam, and my school wasnt very near to my home.
with sympathy of Bhutto, she was able to get my family votes but when Ishaq Khan sacked her government all of my family was pleased.
First Nawaz Sharif Govt:
was in house preparing for my F.Sc Exams, I still remember his sacking effected my exam the next day after the annoucement by Ishaq Khan wasnt able to sleep that night, as a teen agers i became die hard supporter of him cause of the dreams he was promising to Pakistanis, Motor ways, bullet trains, no debts etc.
he did get votes and we werent happy for his departure at all.
Second Benazir Govt:
didnt get our vote this time around, her departure was pleasing.
Second Nawaz Govt:
He did manage to get my first vote and along with family, I left the country in late 1998, this time though exhausted with this musical chair and poor performance of his Govt and power grabbing and installing his brother as CM of largest province, me and my family started to dislike these Ganja Bros'. heard about his departure at Uni campus from a friend, wasnt too pleased but wasnt sad about it, followed some news online and thats it.
Mushy's resignation:
While entering office building, I saw him on BBC and Sky News live in office lobby screens, read he risgned, got to my desk followed some news. it was more or less expected, wasnt too worried about his departure but disgusted what will come next from two tried and tested looters.
my above comments may also depicts how many common Pakistanis taken for ride and fooled by these goons. whole thing make me sad about Pakistan, this country could have done wonderfull only if we had honest leadership!
Re: Where were you?
I remember the day when Bhutto was hanged. We had a marriage of one of the relatives then and bride people were staunch supporters of him. It was like one of their own family member had died that day.
