Re: Where they came from?
^Exactly. I’ve never understood why some people think that just because something is also practiced by another religious group, it is haram (even when it doesn’t contradict Islamic principles). I can see why wearing a saree would be haram if it was one of those revealing, bikini top-like sarees actresses wear. However, if the saree is modest and has a full blouse with long sleeves, why is it haram just because Hindus also wear sarees?
I also don’t understand people who think that everything that is Arab is halal, while everything that has non-Arab roots is haram. Just because practices don’t have Arab roots, it doesn’t mean they’re haram.
Interestingly, this issue of culture versus religion is an issue in the Afghan culture as well.

Interesting indeed. Though they share tribal cultures and have same religious ideology and still they are facing difficulty in celebrating occasions. I read somewhere that Pashtunwali is more strict and give less powers to ladies.

We had a family in our old neighbor in Karachi... Pathan family.... Elder daughter had affair in college.... she got married... Her father and brothers did not attend event... they boycotted and avoid them for couple of years... but after a while ... they are all okay...
P.s. Guy was from Urdu speaking family.... I never saw any big drama while she got married.... it was quite decent wedding at their home.... their children speak Urdu and Pashto... mixture....
Usually... end result is death... if occurred in tribal belt within a community...

The problem is same. People don't follow religion where their ego is hurt or they have to lose something in financial terms. Last week, I was listening to Dr Asrar's translation and tafseer of Surah e Nisa and he pointed out that the area of Pakistan where ladies right of inheritance is confiscated is otherwise most religious in the area (tribal and Pakhtunkhah). Though, I see the same problem in Sindh and Punjab as well (which are considered as liberal and less religious and sometimes secular societies).
Re: Where they came from?
I may sound bit feminist... ladies are still oppressed... but this is global dilemma...

Re: Where they came from?
Little off topic: Is God in Sikhism different than Islam?
the adi granth which is most primitive text have 16 kashmiri pandit writers as well, it is more similar to Hindu Omkar, Omkar is unified god of hinduism which is one unperosnified element, also called Paramtatva, supereme object, rest 33 crores are manifestation of same god in different form. I have no idea of Islamic God, so one should start comparing Hindu Omkar with Islamic god first, before comparing with Sikh Onkar

If Islamic God = Hindu God

Islamic God = Sikh God
