Am I wrong? I still don’t know how these guys are coming up with July 16. I’d like to know how that result came up. If Bernard knew that it was 16, he couldn’t possibly guess that it was July (could have been May or July). If Albert knew it was July, it could have been either 14 or 16. Same is with all other combinations except June 17.

It can’t be May or June. At first Albert is sure Bernard doesn’t know either. Initially, the only way for Bernard to know would be if her birthday was on a non-repeated day. There are 2 of those 18 in June 18th and 19 in May 19th. Albert knows it isn’t May or June which is why he is sure Bernard doesn’t know.

Now Bernard says he didn’t know before but knows now. After hearing Albert’s assertion he used the reasoning above to eliminate May and June. It can’t be the 14th because that gives two non-eliminated months(Bernard is the guy who knows the day) hence two possible dates. That leaves June 16th, August 15th and August 17th. Bernard knows the day which is why he knows the date.

Albert figured out his friend’s reasoning and has 3 options now. He’d would not know if the month was August since that gives two dates. That leaves June 16th.
