Mehnaz n Fayz, I never said anything to her specifically, though I still plan to, so i can’t say i was being rude, tho I’ve been told i seem quite rude to others who don’t know me, but I never get into these discussions abt right and wrong with strangers anyway so thats beside the point.
What happened was that, we were talking the other night and she made a joke that a mutual friend of ours smoked and drank. I knew about the smoking but not about the drinking. She said if I hadn’t known, she would have never told me. Aright fine whatever… u wanna drink or do other stuff, thas ur business… now what really got to me was that she said she would buy her a beer and let her drink it at her house and to me, encouragin gsomething is a lot worse than simply doing that act but keeping it on the downlow. Unfrotunately I never got a chance to say any of this coz she hung up after she knew i was shocked and called me childish and immature.
Anyway… I’m over it. I figure if it makes you feel better to call someone names coz they’re right, well by all means go ahead. At least I did my part

There are ways to encourage or discourage people. If you see that the other person is getting offended try to change your approach, different people different temperaments. Also depends on the sort of relationship you have with them. Frankly if you see that your telling them is not getting through change your attitude or just distance yourself for a while. Granted some people will always get offended, there you just pray to Allah to give them sense.
Its always a good idea to be theoretical instead of being personal or to mention the matter in an off hand general manner that I find usually doesn’t offend and you have done your job by letting them know.

Sara its not easy informing people that they are wrong. We're humans, we simply hate the fact that we might be wrong, and somebody else might be right.
In truth when you tell somebody they are doing something un Islamic, they in turn get angry. I think our part is to tell them, in a polite and friendly manner. However, they have to help out and keep an open mind, they have to give us a chance and listen.
It's very hard to educate people where Islam is concerned. People get very personal...they get offended very quickly. Most people who dont follow Islam correctly are the ones who have the toughest time listening when somebody tries to tell them such and such is in a certain way in Islam.
I mean our Prophet (SAW) was a very very patient man. He tried to educated people, he did not shove anything down their throats. Yet they attacked him, ridiculed him, and in turn started arguments and fights.
So yeah in this day and age, people such as myself and you....who have limited patience can only do so much. It is a must for us to inform somebody if they are doing something wrong/haram. It's not an option. It's something we have to do.
And one doesnt have to be a perfect Muslim (such a person doesnt exist in the first place) in order to point out if somebody else is doing wrong. You dont have to follow Islam, but if you know that somebody else who does, is doing something haram, by all means point it out to them. If they inform you that it's hypocritical, tell them its not, and you're simply stating a fact. You might not be following it, but you're not saying its not true.
Anyway dont get angry over it. Be happy you were able to speak up. :)
And those who dont want to be preached to, can simply go out and get the Islamic knowledge on their own!!!

funnny how many times people say this and how many times it falls on deaf ears. frankly its really hard to think that way. “To each its own” mentality sometimes makes u apathetic, which isn’t good. but there is no other way either.
Its really hard to see ur friends go the wrong path and u be content with doing ur part. this is seemthing that she will learn as time moves on and she meets more morons in her life. She will in the end be able to make a judgment who is worth the extra effort in protecting and who isn’t. This is for her to learn 
and something that will require time.

if it is non of your business, it is exactly that. Noone loves a bsy body. Or moral khotai. In fact people prefer it if individuals who are greatly flawed kept themselves to themselves and didnt morlaly condem them.
Hazrat mohammed (saw) was imo infallable, there is no way any of us flawed mortals can try and equate ourselves to him. He was preaching a religion. Busy bodies usually do it to get a kick. Makes them feel good about being twats. Go figure.

So now, enjoining good and forbidding evil (one of the requirements in Islam) is now seen as something that is wrong all together.
Wonderful, people actually prefer to leave people who are seriously flawed to themselves, because that will make them look good and the society prefers such individuals. No wonder this society is going all the way down, especially when it comes to morality.

Sara... Not that you havent read this already but you do your part the best way you know how. There is no book written with dialogues or monologues or any-logs as to what one must say... Some will say be discreet when others will say use tough-love.
I commend you for trying something many feel "ashamed" to do because of peer pressure and the fear of being disliked etcetera etcetera...
