I don't think we have an exact counterpart in American culture, but I would say a nice steak comes close----no big wedding menu is complete without a great steak selection. And every city has a decent selection of fancyish steak houses. Steak is an indulgence, a gourmet pleasure, and a measure of status.
Other stuff that's been mentioned, like meatloaf, mac and cheese, etc., is beloved comfort food here but would be out of place at a classy wedding, and when dining out would be found at more family-style or diner type joints.
