Re: What’s so wrong with Maryam Law ?
But my point is; that it has happened before- so many times; like in 1986-87 Budget duty was reduced on imported steel from Rs.750 to Rs.418 per Tonne to yield net savings of around Rs.200million to Ittefaq Foundary.
Then famous SRO of 1991-92 where N$ Govt., issued SRO 584/91 bringing down the custom duty on shredded and bundled scrap from Rs.1,500 per tonne to Rs.500 per tonne but for Ship Breaking Industry the amount was reduced by Rs.500 per tonne which resulted the death blow to ship breaking industry but yielded Rs.1,025 million to Ittefaq Foundary.
And there are scores of things that happened for example: Chunian was declared an industrial estate in 1987 through SRO 400 (10/87) for Chief Minister Punjab N$ on the orders of Gen. Ghulam Jillani.
That SRO was issued in 1987 budget but it gave Chunian the retrospective benefit of SRO 500 (1/84) basically from 1984 under which industries setup in Chunian before 1987 got tax holidays and lo and behold you know what – out of sheer luck and absolute coincidence Sharif family had their five industrial units operating in that selected area for tax holiday and that too was accorded retrospectively.
I can go on and on but I will stop here as some members start thinking if someone critiques PMLN; then he / she is from/supporting PTI (I salute their super duper intelligence and I adore the way their brain is wired to have such a clear and impeccable thought process :)) but I will just give another example of rebates on sugar when House of Ittefaq had high stakes in sugar industry the rebates exercised retrospectively allowed him to amass Rs.500 million in 1990’s and even rebate arrears that were facilitated by CBR in 1997 and a lot more; so why not Maryam Law now- maybe other countries who were impacted by Panama Scandal can learn from us and copy our laws and we shine on international forum as pioneers in this?
Maybe Christine Lagarde (Managing Director IMF) reach out to First Daughter of Pakistan; and present accolades for bringing in transparency which even she could not think of during last month’s conference she chaired – anything can happen – right?
Be Positive – Stay Positive – All is well – PMLN is our Govt., how anything can be wrong?
I am for Maryam Law – you?
