What would you name your first child?

Sumorani, i've seen the name Aysha with different spellings...still its a Muslim name, no matter how u spell...well thts what i think. Anyway, however somebdy feels comfortable...

i agree with that. i think what they mean is that the pronunciation should be the correct way islamically. anyway, i think i will be spelling it the way i want and yeh ive seen aisha, aysha, ayesha.

Reha seems like an easy name to pronounce to me. It’s hard to imagine Americans messing that up. But then again Americans are really good at butchering any name that isn’t typical to their own culture. If you think it was tough for you…Aisha wasn’t a piece of cake either. Now I like my name a lot…but it was very rare to be called Aisha. You’ve no idea how many times i’ve been called A’eeeesha (annoying). I’ve even been called Asia. Oh and let’s not forget Alicia. Now the last example is just PLAIN STUPID. Where on earth do you see an L in my name, huh?

Here’s a funny story Psquared. My professor called my A’eesha the first day of class. And I told her that my name is Aisha. And then she said, “Oh I thought it was pronounced A’eesha” And i told her, “No it’s only pronounced A’eesha in the African American culture. I’m Asian, it’s pronounced Aisha.”

My professor was so intrigued by this piece of multicultural information that I shared with her that she said…“So, how do you pronounce your name in England?”

I just looked at her and said, “Aisha with a British accent.” I mean what the heck! Needless to say it was a pointless and weird conversation that took up several minutes of her attendance time.

and i have the sammmme problem. Everyone at school calls me A’eesha. Its annoying cause like you said all the other names like asia, alicia, everything but Aisha lol… your little post reminded me of ME =)
btw everytime my parents meet a couple who plans on naming their child Aisha. My parents give them the wonderful advice to save up before having teh child cause Aisha’s always want their way and spend to much money and unfortunately those couples came back to my parents and said they completely agree on that little opinion my parents had on my the name Aisha. But its ok. I still love it!
