Re: What would you name your first child?

I dont know what Im going to name my kids. You guys have some wonderful names here by the way, Mashallah.

I know I need names that are versatile because the kids will grow up in the west and their names should be easy to pronouce. I had too much trouble with my name growing up in Chicago schools.

Meher1982, you're in my prayers. May Allah swt help you through this time in your life. :)

Reha seems like an easy name to pronounce to me. It’s hard to imagine Americans messing that up. But then again Americans are really good at butchering any name that isn’t typical to their own culture. If you think it was tough for you…Aisha wasn’t a piece of cake either. Now I like my name a lot…but it was very rare to be called Aisha. You’ve no idea how many times i’ve been called A’eeeesha (annoying). I’ve even been called Asia. Oh and let’s not forget Alicia. Now the last example is just PLAIN STUPID. Where on earth do you see an L in my name, huh?

Here’s a funny story Psquared. My professor called my A’eesha the first day of class. And I told her that my name is Aisha. And then she said, “Oh I thought it was pronounced A’eesha” And i told her, “No it’s only pronounced A’eesha in the African American culture. I’m Asian, it’s pronounced Aisha.”

My professor was so intrigued by this piece of multicultural information that I shared with her that she said…“So, how do you pronounce your name in England?” :smack:

I just looked at her and said, “Aisha with a British accent.” I mean what the heck! Needless to say it was a pointless and weird conversation that took up several minutes of her attendance time.

SU and PSquared.. thanks alots :)

I knew a girl name Michael not michelle. The girl passed HS, went to college and all. If you teach kids how to respect differences, no matter what you name them, they won't drop out of school.

lol at Asia :stuck_out_tongue:
true in england some time they cant pronounce ur name correctly.

Re: What would you name your first child?

Boy - Adam
Girl - Laila

**I love thinking DIFFERENT names... But the very next day I lost the UNIQUENESS in the name... Though we havent decided anything about it yet (Got Nikahofied, will be married after some two months).. Yet the name should be different and meaningful..

I don't know why I wish the first one would be boy, but a fmily would be incomplete without an angelic fairy giggles.. Whenever I think about babies, cute baby girls with pony tails and cute hairstyles comes in my mind...

I like the names Meenu-cheher, Nawaal, Meherosh, Manaal, Ashaaz for girls
and for boys Isjaaz, Hurairah, Huzaifah..

Ryhming words with father's or mother's name is another nice idea... COuldnt figure out any different yet though

Re: What would you name your first child?

Buchchon Allah ka khauf karon abhi say buchchon ka soch rahay ho. Yay socho baray ho kar bano gay kia?

Qaoum ki kaisay khidmat karo gay?

Deen ko kaisay phailao gay?

Pahar pay gaay ojhri ki larai.

Agar aulaad hi na huwi to naam kiasay rakho gay ya husband nain aap ka suna hi naheen to?

I like how Arabs pronounce the name, Laila. They say it as (lay-la) and it sounds more graceful. I don't really like the way desis pronounce it, it sounds rough and harsh.
