In the last elections they only got 11% of the votes cast, and since then their popularity has actually declined considerably as the local elections on 2005 showed. They cannot play on the post 9/11 anger anymore, as they did back in 2002, so they don't ever have a hope in hell of winning power in Pakistan as a whole.

Thats because they have oil not because they have Islam… 
Once their oil dries up, which I believe isnt far of, they will be left high and dry… They will have nothing to feed their people but sand.
And good riddens I say, who needs those Wahabi priks around…

If Pakistan's ideal is Saudia Arabia, then that is truly sad. Saudi may have some riches, but its in the hands of the few. The "stable" jobs people speak of here, are being held by foreigners. Any time they need people to do any real brainwork, they call in someone from another country to do it for them. Any progress you've seen in Saudi is not from Saudi origin. Even when they need to do architectural adjustments to the Meccan and Madinian masjids, they need to call in a group of architects and designers from other countries.
Now on to the main topic: MMA is not going to gain national popularity until it starts to do some real work. Closing down video and music stores in NWFP is not, by any definition, fixing NWFP's problems. Maybe NWFP's population is idiotic enough to keep these nikammay in election, just because they fool people with their beards and talk. But that's what they are. They're full of talk. What exactly have they done for NWFP in measurable terms? What is the proof of their contribution to the progress in NWFP? That's what I'd like to know.
Like anything, if they're hardworking, and making a real difference, then they'll be elected to more national positions. If not, then they're going to remain what they are: a manifestation of illiteracy and jahaaliat in NWFP.

We need more people like Taqi Usmani and Israr Ahmed to sort Pakistan out.
i fully agree...they are very moderate and really "scholars"....not like MMA.....who have not even a single name in a field of Shariah.....
what MMA did in 5 years in NWFP,,,,these the same people who i remebered time and agin written columns in Nawai Waqt editorial that...if we gain power ..we will show the world the regime of Umar nbin Khattab (ra) and Umar bin Abdul Aziz....!!!!!!
and what they showed the world in 5 years is like Wajid Ali SHah of Lukhnow...Mughal Empires...and Abbasid rules...deceiving..betraying...breaking promisses....vote-banks...enjoying luxuries...grand CM houses...cars...protocols...and such shameful acts.....
and still they are not shameful of calling them the successors of umar(ra) !!!!!!!!!!

Every political party and pak army got chance to rule on this country so lets give a chance to Molvis and lets see what they deliver to this nation. They must give a chance to serve for this nation.

MMA's tactics in power in NWFP during the last 5 years has actually decreased the support of mullahs, which is a positive achievment overall. :)
