T20 is becoming popular by the day and will be important part of international cricket. SO its better to have 2 tournament than one even if it is just local players.

Symonds (36) is not that old. He is out of the Australian team for non-cricketing reasons

Lara (43) and Jayasuriya (42) could still give many opposing players a run for their money esp. in the shortest format!

We all know how big a flop Jaysurya was in IPL. Lara failed in ICL and tried hard to get into IPL but no one was interested. Point is that, these people are just a poor shadow of themselves now. It will just be brand value for which ppl might be interested in them. As far as output is concerned, any decent first class cricketer in pakistan will be able to produce better than them.

Symonds has retired from all form of cricket. He is not in IPL this year.
