I think they are suppose to be very good for you…My mom brought some panjiri from pakistan i really liked… also something called arke mako???(sp) I didn’t drink much of that but its suppose to help you with back problems..now i wish i did..cuz i’ve been having alot of back pain since giving birth.

girl's here saying they got back to work from "day one" after giving birth... take it easy.. honestly!... its nice to move around and all.. but yrs later... the inner weakness may come back to haunt u...
moderation is the key!

Eat reasonable and balanced food. Some specific foods may have found to be helping and effective, but it is never a must to have them.
As for dadi, nani, mom,.... they just care for you and have a better understanding of every thing, so they share their experience with you. If you think you are wise enough to decide what is best, then don't rely on them....But don't blame them for not guiding you as well, when you face problems.

I would somewhat agree with viper here...you don't have to leave your children at day care for hours....new moms can still loose weight and look great by exercising at home. It all depends on how much you care about ur own body and health. Unfortunately many desi new moms are not either educated about losing weight or they just don't care. How much does it take to exercise on a bike and with some free weights in your own room for 30 mins a day.

My grandmother made my cousin something with almonds, pista, coconut, brown sugar, raisens, cooked with other stuff tooo something like 16 items...

New moms are just hungry hungry hungry. The BEST remedy - a huge juicy steak, big baked potato with butter and sour cream and a big pile of broccoli. Finish it off with a chocolate ice cream sundae. lol!!
But this steak dinner was a gift from my dear hubby who got it for me at my favorite restaurant. He arrived later in the evening so I got to eat the hospital dinner as an appetizer before he arrived.
after he left, I went to the maternity ward's kitchen where they have all kinds of things for the new moms to eat and I got a boiled egg, a bag of chips and a turkey sandwich.
URP!!!
...and I was back in my size 7s before the little guy was 2 weeks old.

oh...PS. when i came home with my first baby, I had these tremendous cravings for cabbage, turnips, broccoli, cauliflower. These are totally gaseous things to eat and I gave the poor little one really bad gas pains cause it goes into your milk. You need to take it easy on gassy foods and spices if you're breastfeeding...I learned this the hard way.
