What makes you beleive in God?

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Contradiction with a capital "C".

In the beginning you say everything requires a maker than in the same post you say that there is something which do not require a maker.

Make up your mind.

:cb:

Good point LB

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Alternatively, God is not a thing...so the statement is still valid...it's pretty standard theological stuff...Transcendence....

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

although besides the topic as is the practice of Athiest wannabe’s , you can read here..
who created Allah..:

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Then if I assume you are right and say God is no-thing will that be correct?
Its a pity I didn't want to get into word play but hey, you started it.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Sure. What is a thing? Why is God a thing? You're right...it is wordplay...but then, your original objection was based on a contradiction that made certain assumptions about the words in use...no?

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Good to see you agree God is nothing or Nothing is God whichever way you want to put it.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

OK lets try once more;

The above quote gives us a clear cut picture everything living or non living requires a creator. This we agree so we don't go in detail.

Now tell me logically speaking why the same rules do not cover God. Who made the God. "If somebody can be called a loony for claiming his coat weaved itself then how big a loony is the one who says a Maker made itself or was there forever".

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

God is not a mere thing. Nothing implies absence, while thing implies tangibility.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

a) Why must there be an infinite chain here?

b) Identifiying a sole creator kind of ends the chain

A creator that is there 'forever' doesn't really suffer from the problem of creation...unless one wants to ask absurdist questions like, who created this place that has existed 'forever'...

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Your points A and B are more like "lets ignore that we have a problem in the equation".
That absurd question is not mine. If I put a question I would rather put it this way; If God can create itself or was there forever why this should not be applied to the rest of the universe.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

So how do you classify God? It has to be something.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

I raised the same issue in post 30. the dude ran awaya I guess

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Cop out. Questioning the validity of the equation in the first place is very much valid.

In any case, no one is suggesting you ignore...rather, merely suggesting that you may well have a problem with the premise.

The absurdist question is asking for the creation event of something eternal. That's no wordplay, but a conceptual non-starter.

Re: What makes you beleive in God?

Trick that the ancient Jews even recognized. Classification implies boundaries. God exists, but is transcendent. Finite definitions may not apply.

Directly leads to the age-old question if God can entirely by knowable.
