I guess my father is a Syed....myself....we were never brought up emphasizing the caste system, and my parents would never even categorically tell me that I am this or that...and if I would have any children I would do the same...in my opinion, being muslim is enough....unless somebody is a true believer in the ten commandments.."All are equal...but some are more equal than the others"

some guys says, that they don't believe the caste system but i think inwhich society we lived,gives much importance in castes.
Here is gujar(larakay),kashmiri(quarling people),syed(sharif people),rajput(i don't know rajpt qualities),rai(rai bahadur sahab),patahan(children ko pakar kar la jata hain).
i am jatt,but sorry there is no jatt,i like jatt people.

Rai r rajputs..others in rajputs include Rana,Rao,Khokhar, Chouhan, Rajas...and scores of others.
hmmmm, mister eros, and all others who emphasised on being muslims only, we r not here trying to degrade each other or to suggest that one caste or person is better than the other, or as u said “MORE EQUAL” to the other,we r not implying anything here, and for ur info, we r all muslims too, theres nothing wrong in telling which caste u belong to.. and it was just a simple question asking which caste u belong to, so please dont make it into something of an argument here, yes i,m a muslim and yes i,m a pakistani, but yes i,m a pathan too, and theres nothing wrong with it!

I think this post is not to justify validity of caste system... There r many customs in our society which may be strange but the fact is that they r there.. People live with them and they have a perfect right to believe in them. There r some benifits like security etc.
Some peoplehave suggested that its a hindu disease but what about Hashmis, alvis, qureshis etc. If having castes is not good no one should have them including arabic castes.

I know ppl are getting a little aggressive over here (which they are used to...can't help it) but in any case, I don't find a reason not to discuss the validity of the system in this thread...and hence, set the basics(or at least try to)of ppl right...
If ppl have been believing in it, that can't be a good excuse for me to believe it or follow it...to exercise our judgement is what needs to be done....for sure, it is one of the traditions that have been brought in our society by the Hindu influeneces....but even if we do not believe in castes, it is evident in every strata of our society how we have our superficial standards by which we treat people..ahem, this could be a pandora box...mayday mayday...I am outta here..
