lol no its not a joke .. it works very well. Of course you dont lid the machis and place it on the hair.

You’ve to hold the machis a good 10-15 cm away from where you wanna burn the hairs. Like if you wanna do the sides, you turn the head a bit sideways and keep the machis on a good fair distance. Its the “smoke” or whatever you call from the fire that catches the hair and burn them off. So no, there is no fireball nor chance of burning your face unless you touch the machis on your skin. It does feel very warm against your skin, but never enough to burn your skin.
