Whatever book captivates your child is a good book for them to read. If the motivation and enjoyment isnt there then reading is nothing more than a duty or a chore. Some kids love the fantasy-adventure type that Rowling writes, some prefer Charles Dickens (my childhood fave) some prefer the hard-core reality of steinbeck or pearl buck or mark twain. I dont think that a profound and perfect writing style is all that necessary at age 6 - the main thing is to captivate them.
