I think I can forget all things about Pakistan but will never ever forget my days in school.

ofcourse like everyone else i miss pak too. its been 4 yrs since i last saw karachi..

what i miss most:

-the fries at copper kettle
-running around with food to neighbors’ houses during ramzan 2 minutes before iftar
-the buses that never stopped (literally!)
-cricket in the summer rain
-writing SAT exams for people for obscene amounts of money.. whooo that was a blast
-impressing the ladies at school with my brother’s Honda Roadmaster
-the afternoon air in saddar polluted with bus, taxi and rickshaw exhaust fumes.. !!

The ramadan in the air the way i remember (from a 15 yr old’s point of view). Coming back from school half fatigued counting every second till iftar Taking an afternoon nap just so iftar would seem to come quicker. Then waking up just before asr. Running to the masjid just before iftar to give some food on a grossly disbalanced tray (there wasnt any rubbermaid back then). Then rushing back home and smelling the pakoras in every alley you took to get back home. Birds chirping going crazy. Just as you open the door the whole neighbourhood starts to reverberate with the voice of the muazzin of the local masjid givin the azan. And then you jump straight to the table and open your fast desi style (eat till you drop) and then pray maghrib about 20 or so minutes late. Pray maghrib at lightspeed and ask God for all the things you ever wanted, very quickly, just in time to catch Thundercats on NTM. Then later at night being forced out of the house to go pray taraveehs (although somehow the same rule never applied to the elders at home). Going to the masjid and fooling around during namaz with other kids of the mohalla. Then running away to the local arcade game shop, half way through the taraaveehs, to quench your day long thirst for Street Fighter 2. Then on the way back being spotted by your neighborhood tell tale aunti who makes BBC want to bury its head in shame. And ofcourse going back home to an angry ami jaan ready to go nuclear on you for not going to taraveeh.

Hmm if I was from a urban part of Pakistan I would not miss it neither, especially not a place like KHI (argghhh so much pollution, stress, mean people and claustrophobicness), there's nothing there which you don't have over here (only it's much lower quality over there), there's nothing special about Pak city life, even the poshest of localities don't quite come to the western standards we are accustomed to so if you're going for the luxurious urban developedness then Pak is the last place to visit or live in because you'll be disappointed (and I’m talking posh areas of LHR/KHI here) but rural life is a whole different experience altogether, if you're going for the country life and the cultural experience then you’ll want to go back again and again.

i miss karachis barish.....it used to be so much fun there....everyone would come up to the roof....dance around in the rain...laugh sing songs...n enjoy every drop of it...ami would make pakorey n chaiye afterwards...n everyone looked happy n excited...i also loved the kushbo of matti....it smelled soo good after the rain there...

We all miss home (whether it's Pakistan or India), the food, the relatives, the school & college friends - but after a few weeks in Delhi or Mumbai- I'm ready to go back.

The Dirt, Curruption, the schemeing relatives, beggers, overcrowded roads & traffic jams, not to mention the power cuts & shortage of running water. No toilets anywhere and even if you find one, they are filthy.

And yet, I miss it!!

and I miss the good times with my cousins, aunts and uncles.
I miss the carefree feeling of not having bills to pay and not having a desk to be tied to.
