Re: What comes to your mind…
why would u want your little kid to pose making rotian n all…
what is the point of making kid posing like that?? ![]()
why does it look ‘cute’ on a kid…and torture on an adult??
Re: What comes to your mind....
Why would this look like torture if this was an adult?
She looks clean and comfortable. She doesn't look overworked or tired or upset.
Re: What comes to your mind....
The difference is between "choose to" and "have to". If it's all for a lark, sure how cute. But if this is her daily reality, then I think it's sad. I think today is my anti-Pollyanna day.
What's sad about this as a daily reality?
Re: What comes to your mind…
arrey, it’s cute na
.
We make them pose for other unrealistic stuff like with princesses and unicorns, why not with rotis? It’s cute seeing little girls doing stuff. Above all, they like it too!
Re: What comes to your mind…
I don’t imagine a girl that young will be “seriously” rolling out rotis for her family…on a daily basis. Having a closer look at it…the way she’s dressed…her age…seems more like a pose or that she’s playing. If she HAS to do this everyday…
Also, I don’t feel too comfortable with a kid that young being next to a fire/hot object.
Re: What comes to your mind....
i see innocence and some fear, a little bit of hope.
can't really say much more than that. she's cute...i dunno about the picture.

Innocence: because she is so darn cute and little
Some fear: because she probably hates it by the fire
A little bit of hope: cuz zhe's hoping her pic and rotis turn out good
haina?
Re: What comes to your mind....
I was also more concerned about the stove!
Re: What comes to your mind....
You know at first...I thought "oh no..the kid should be in school or playing"...but clicking on the picture and looking at it enlarged...provided a more clearer idea as you can better see her clothes and better guess her age....and so upon a closer look it appears like she's posing.
A picture is worth a thousand words...everyone will have their own interpreation. At first..I thought similar to Sehrysh and then I thought differently when I actually clicked on it for a closer look. I can see where you're coming from Sehrysh...but the other pics that you put up is more laborious work...work required to make a living and survivie...work that one doesn't look forward to. With cooking...kids...especially litte girls might take a fancy to it...so it can be seen even as a "shauq" or "play"....and not like labor. I remember my mom telling me that as a kid she had small steel pots and pans...and she would make small rotis for fun, etc. At the same time I do understand what you mean.....because I have a cousin whom I remember would wash the dishes (when she was around 6'ish/7'ish) while her mom would sit and watch TV.....she didnt have a playful sort of personality.....and I remember once one of my other cousins had diarrhea and had soiled her clothes or perhaps the bathroom....and she told her mom about it...and mom told her to clean the kid's butt while she sat and watched TV....she just didn't want to be bothered...she was absorbed in watching the show. I remember my cousin acting like a mini adult even when she was a kid/teenager. Some might think it's no big deal.....i felt that there were some things her mom could have taken care of herself. However, Sahar also makes a good point.....I think it's important (to an extent) to get kids used to doing a few chores. My mom wanted us to focus more on studies....and didn't concentrate much on having us do household tasks...so as an adult I find it hard to get into.
Re: What comes to your mind....
palalo baby<3
Re: What comes to your mind....
^ I guess I also don't see it about chores.
I think what we think of as "play" is kids testing out the world around them. It's them exploring and learning. Kids learn through play, and kids play as they learn. "Play" doesn't have to involve plastic, neon colors, or fake items. Play is through interaction and trying out different aspects of the world around us, including what is part of our daily lives.
I also think kids should be involved in whatever we are doing around the house or outside. It's NOT their responsibility, but they should be encouraged to take part, to feel welcome, and productive, and connected.
Why do you feel sorry for someone who makes rotis every day?
Why do you assume that that life is a limited one?
Why do you assume that that is ALL that there is to that life?
And why do you assume that there isn't an attentive parent near this girl? She looks clean and cared for. Nothing here suggests neglect, except perhaps her proximity to the stove.
Why assume that this is a "chore"?

What comes to my mind...CUTE...!!.and ditto to the bold part. She looks clean and not like the other kids in the few other pics posted in the thread.Unfortunately those kids do not seem to be posing.
My 20 month old daughter loves to pretend to mop or sweep with anything...a towel,a tissue, even a piece of paper.I find it cute and not even once have thought that it is child abuse of some form nor I think there is anything to feel sorry about it.I have not taught her to do it but she just finds it fun maybe.
It is just a pose in a picture and those assuming that this is what her future will hold for her is actually lame..!!
Re: What comes to your mind....
^Chill Sahar....like i said before...it's just a picture...and it's open to various interpretations. :p
As for making rotis every day.....I don't think there's anything wrong with that. What I would, however, find disturbing is if a child is required to make rotis for not just herself but for her whole family. And the more family members there are....the more work. It can be uncomfortable...squatting next to a hot stove...sweating, rolling one roti after another...and then safety hazard issue (provided she's not being supervised carefully). For an older kid....maybe a teenager or someone closer to that age...it's not such a big deal. If she's making the roti for herself...as a task...fine. If it's play...great. If it's something she has to do for the WHOLE FAMILY...at such a young age (which I doubt...as the pic seems more like a pose)...i'm not keen on that idea.
Re: What comes to your mind....
^LOL don't worry, I'm relaxed.
Re: What comes to your mind....
^Nothing wrong with chores...but I've seen some parents not handle that well. In the case of my cousin...it seemed like mom did little and she was like a mini-aunti as a kid and a teen. And then another example that comes to mind is this one woman who would scream at her kids for not doing any work....(while she sat and watched TV or read a magazine or slept).....but would openly say that she doesn't like cleaning herself and her home was a mess. She would say that she'd rather have her daugthers be "sughar" and excel at domestic chores....as opposed to going to college and having a degree....because the former is what's more important in a marriage. However, her own actions contradicted her words/scolding. There has to be a balance....and what that "balance" entails....and where the line is drawn....will vary from parent to parent.

this.
Re: What comes to your mind....
Yeah, I agree, RV.
I think the key is that children this young don't have the overall responsibility for these things. It's just something they do and learn to do.
Re: What comes to your mind....
Child labor is real. It stil exists in the country I come from. I don't know if it is viewed as a problem by the parents who have more mouths to feed and barely any sources of income. It appears as a problem to you and me who have the privilege of letting our children play with our kitchen utensils and make an occasional sandwich.
This picture does look like it was staged scene. However, as NomiCA wanted us all to share what we felt when we saw the picture, we all put our 2 cents in!
Great discussion.
Re: What comes to your mind…
She reminds me of my 5 years old cousin who didn’t want to go to school one day and said to her mama:
"Mama I will prepare food and do all the house chores but please don’t make me go to school daily
"
Cute!!
