Yes the book gives information of basic aspects of Sufism in neutral way. Covers Data Ganj Bux from Lahore, Nizam u Din Aaliya from Delhi, Khwaja Moin Din from Ajmer, Baba Farid from Pakpattan, Saints from Multan, etc in interesting way.
Interesting. so you can read both Hindi as well as urdu. Not heard about Kavishri. Google search gives an idea that its something famous and sung by many people like Heer Waris Shah
I can read Hindi way better than I can read Urdu and I can read Punjabi much much better than I can read Hindi and Urdu. I’ve been reading my same 4-5 urdu books for 3 years. I read a new Punjabi book every week, two weeks lol. I’m also helping my friend write a Punjabi book, so there’s that too.
Yeah Kavishari is basically poetry sung without any instruments. Usually it’s about Sikhi or Sikh folk heroes, but you also have stuff about social issues or Punjabi culture. The most famous kavishar actually, was a Muslim from Malwa region of Punjab, Babu Rajab Ali Khan. Any fan of Kavishari will love this Babu Rajab Ali Khan.
They’re there yeah, but a lot of them are rubbish. For every 1 book that’s good, you have 10 rubbish ones. And like I said somewhere else a little while ago, I’m helping my friend write his Punjabi novels, so I’ve been doing more and more reading recently, to see what there is to compare his work to hahaha.
The poetry/philosophy of Punjabi is tough to beat though. Poets like Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Anwar Masood, Amrita Pritam, Baba Najmi, etc. Then you get into the Sufiyana Kalaam and it’s a whole different level of brilliance. Just look at that bit I posted in the Baba Bulleh Shah topic. What words can I use to describe that brilliance?
It is name of punjabi script developed by fifth sikh guru arjan singh, punjabi is written in gurumukhi script in India contrary to Shahmukhi script written in Pakistan
Really? Assuming you can read Hindi, learning Gurmukhi should be like 2-3 days work. It’s far easier than Devanagari, due to there not being any conjuncts.
