The Hunk, very briefly, I'm a Sunni Muslim and a follower of Ahl ul Sunnah wal Jamah. I do not associate myself with any particular group. I only refer to myself as a Sunni Muslim.

You already told us that 
By religious background, I meant, where did you get most of your Islamic education (parents/school/some other religiously influential person in your life). Also, which scholars’ works/books you like etc.

I don’t have much Islamic education/knowledge to begin with. Most of what I use is what I learned on my own. Few years ago, when I somewhat started practicing Islam I read a number of books that were very helpful for me. In addition, I started reading Tafsir ibn Kathir a few years ago (still reading it).
I’ve read a number of books tawheed (learned a lot from Quran and ahadith as well), but the one that really helped me was ‘The Fundamentals of Tawheed’ by Dr. Bilal Philips.
I started reading the History of Islam (By Dar-us-Salam), but never got a chance to finish it.
There are many other books/articles that I have read on tawheed, aqeedah and a number of other topics in the past that I have found very helpful.
There are a few sites that I use to refer to everyday questions related to matters of prayer, fasting, and the like. However, for more serious questions I usually refer to local scholars for assistance.
