It is permissible because it is just virtual. You must remember to not have any dirty thoughts in your mind when poking that girl. Think of her as a friend. It is certainly better than a guy. If you poke a girl and start to develop feelings for her it's still way more halal than poking a guy and god forbid developing feelings for him. So, yes my dear friend in Islam, you can poke a girl on Facebook.
