Re: Wedding Photos from 1975

The average Pakistani wedding in the 70s:
-Men and women were segregated

-Weddings took place at home, wedding halls came much later, a huge colorful tent or shamiana was erected outside the house which was divided in two parts, one for men and the other for women

-The brides wore red ghararas and wore a ghunghut that is duppata pulled low over her face with kiran bordering the duppatta. Saris could be worn at valima, mostlt green or blue but gharaars too, no lenhgas in those days. Brides sat very demure and with eyes closed.

-Men wore a shera or headdress made of red roses or golden paper.

-Yes, suits were very in thsoe days for bridegrooms despitre the shehras and all. Groom carried a red handkerchef. Sherwanis wer also worn but suits as I said were very in esp for the educated class.

-Even the bridewore a shehra at teh time of rukhtasti, hers was always one of red roses.

-Brides wore red rose garlands which the in lwas put around her neck after nikah.

-Brides got ready at home and after the nikah was done. Nikah was done in Mayon clothes and a lot of people put a nath or nose ring on the bride at the time of nikha, mayon clothes and all.

-Mayon dress was always yellow and shalwar kameez. Brides did not bath or see other men even those in her immediate family during mayon. She bathed on teh day on the wedding. It was done as it wa sbelieved that the bride would look more beautiful on her wedding day if she didn't look all made up teh other days. Mayon days were in odd number ofdays that is 7 days5 days 3 days etc. some even as long as a month.

-Mayon was held separetly with only brides family and there were two mehndis. One when the groom's family went over to the bride's house and did the rasmas / ceremonies. Bride still wore the mayon dress. The brides family went the next day and did rasams or cermonies with teh groom. Some families had a separte mayon for the groom too. Again only teh groom's family attended.

-Brideand groom didn't talk to each other or barat day and neither did they dance. During mehdi the bride and groom's family had a songs competion to see who could outlast the other, only girls and women particiapted in the songs.

-No dhoki parties like today happned, people started singing songs for weeks or even montsh before teh wedding but at home and only clsoe family and freinds attended. teh bride did not particiapte in it.

-Bride did not talk to teh groom even on the valima and still acted demure.

-jehaz or dowry was a must

Eevryone, this is an "average wedding".

-Food; zarda rice was a must along with qorma and birynai. No multiple dishes in thsoe days.
