Hey guys,
im looking at re creating a pakistani wedding for a film that im working on. Its supposed to be in the year 1975, so its a period film. have the traditions for a wedding changed during this time? If someone could help with pictures of that time, and wedding photos it would be a great help. This wedding takes place in a rural village near lahore. I also wanted some details of the different parts of a pakistani wedding. I have come to understand that there is a sangeet, a mayun, a mehendi and a baraat before the actual signing of the nikahnama. Could someone please help me with the details? Also, what type of food is usually served during this time? is there food during certain ceremonies also? are any special sharbats served? Does anyone have photos of those? Im looking at making this as authentic as possible, so any information would REALLY help. I would be eternally grateful.
thanks a ton!
1975 styles were ghararas, chatapati was very in those days. Long and wide shalwars with thick paichey and short, fitted shirts.
You should watch the movie Pakeeza...it will give you a good idea about the way they dressed back then.
Pakistani's dont do sangeet...I think Indians call their Mehndis Sangeet if Im not mistaken. We do Mayun, Mehndi, Barat and Valima. Back then, it was Mayun, Shaadi - Nikah signing, Valima. My dad wore a suit both days (my dad was very eshtylish - he had the Beatles bowl cut and everything!) and my mom wore ghararas. On her wedding she wore a maroon one and valima she wore a turqouise chatapati...absolutely gorgeous!
