A pair of gold earings is a good idea for a wedding gift to a niece. It won't cost more than $500-600 in Pakistan IMO.
I think the amount of money to give at a wedding to a relative really depends on one's social and cultural background or even the status so it's all upto you guys whatever you think is reasonable. I recieved a check for a couple of hundred's from one of my uncles and a pair of gold earings from another uncle. My hubby's uncle gave me a medium sized gold/stone jewelry set so I guess anything goes.
