I call my mum Amma, all my siblings call my mum Ammi. I don't know why I call her Amma when all my siblings call her Ammi.

and they also refer to her as “TUM” ![]()

well, aap is better to use for elders
if they refer to you as “aap” then they should call her “aap” as well.

kayi naam hain mother ke but all contain the 'm' sound. Try dividing this sound along religious lines !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are great Fraudia ;). I had completely forgotten this. There was this Punjabi fellow living in my neighbourhood in Simla.
I had seen him howling on several occasions "O baskar bebe." She used to berate this fellow for playing marbles and not helping her in domestic chores.
Back to the point. 'b' and 'm' have a similarily. You cannot pronounce these with mouth open. :)

That TUM is not said with any disrespect - In fact she (and I ) find it rather cute
People in the villages of Pakistan commonly refer to their mothers as "Tu"
and it is not considered disrespect...
