but that is not a strategic rationale Asif. that maybe a fitness debate. Gilli did it for years. kamran akmal did it for most of his ODI career. keep the wickets and then come open. Bradon McCallum did it as well.

the debate that we have is where to utilize him most. down the order where he belongs naturally and can be strong connecion with tailenders or ask him to open coz we have no good opener in the team.

I would say don’t change it now. Give the guy confidence by persisting with him at the top.

Just imagine if it was UA keeping and he had dropped Amla (that was a stunning catch by Sarfraz. the other stunner was Younis’s catch to dismiss Abbott), SA might have won by 6 or 7 wickets. Having a safe pair of hands behind the stumps can be the difference between victory and defeat.

My suggestion is don’t change it. persist with Sarfraz for now. If he can do it against Steyn and Morkel then he can face any pace attack in this World Cup.
