Amarta Pritam, famous Indian writer, wrote her famous poem ’ Aj aakhan Waris Shah Nu’ addressing Waris Shah and mentioning the problems people of Punjab had to face during the partition. The poem itself is a recognition that our Sufi poets (including Waris Shah) were the representatives of tolerance and unity of people from different faiths.

Amarta Pritam’s poem was famous on both sides of the border. It was first used in Pakistani Movie ‘Kartar Singh’ in 1957 in voice of Innayat Hussain Bhatti and then also used in 2001-02 Indian movie ‘Pinjar’.

Can hardly understand words from Pinjar. But the song does something to you. Eyes get moist for no reason.
