Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

i still don't get this rolls business... when are they going to move into modern times and start shooting digital?? honestly. rolls is just annoying.

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

^im pretty sure they use digital cameras but thats probably just their way of telling the customers that this is the exact number of pics ur gonna get?

the photographer i went to said we're gonna take many pics, and ended up taking over 1000 pics and said im gonna give u ur best shots.

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

what photographers meant by Digital enlargement and Canvas
or they just enlarge a photo and called it digital enlargment
sorry to ask such a dumb question

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

sumo, thats still pretty dumb- how can you limit what you shoot? if its a creative photographer, they'll keep snapping everytime they see a good shot, hopefully, and won't restrain themselves cos they've gone over the quoted limit.
ours did the same as yours and we got about 900 pics from mehendi and shaadi.

yeh ofcourse it's dumb... that's pakistan for ya! and ofcourse if u want them to keep shooting more, then u have to purchase additional rolls from them.

yes, they enlarge a photo and its a digital enlargement. what studoi9 means by canvas, and i know that cuz i went to see it, is they have this thick paper/cotton combo and ur picture is printed on it, it's pliable so they just stick it in the album.

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

we got our wedding done from asim khan a guy who has come from UK settles here in karachi he is not well edicated but very technical and creative in his work.he does amazing work and if u have a meeting with him u will suprised to see his art work.he amaazes people.he has also come up with new technology and his rates are very reasonalbe.

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

sonali_2009, Please send me his details. I am looking for a wedding photographer in Karachi with reasonable rates and good work.
Thanks.

no its not dumb...this is the way it is to convince the customer.

otherwise even if they do three SLR film rolls...that doesnt mean they only gonna bring three roles to the ceremony....several mishaps happens or bla bla.

we photographers take countless images and present the best shots (exposure, contrast, diversity wise)...n on several occasions photographers they fool their customers buy duplicating the same photographs (enlarging the same view).

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

^ i don't understand what you're saying... digital film has no rolls. you keep shooting until memory is full, then you download it to your laptop, and keep shooting. and are people really that naive that they can't tell between two variations of a single picture?

ofcourse it's dumb. the photogs are basically lying to their customers. IMO it is better to tell them that we have a digital SLR and we will be taking a lot of pics and will give u the best shots. instead of telling them we are only gonna take 3 rolls and we will give u the best shots from that, so u better pray that we take good shots in those 3 rolls. in any case, they are using a digital camera and lying to their customers so how is that convincing them?

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

somegroovychick- any one go for professional photographer because simply they wana see themselves in a professional environment.

any one can take a picture, but when it comes to professionalism, photographer will charge for many other things (both for SLR photography, and digital ones) i.e. exposure, posture (so u look the part of this world and not some other world), eyes, quality of the paper, size of the paper, effects.

so lets say u order 5 photographs. they charge u for 5 best shots (on which they gonna work, and gonna make it as best as they could) even though they gonna take 1000 shots (that doesn't matter whether its SLR or DSLR).

what? u misinterpreted my post. i believe u mixed up my photographic experiences with the scenario i mentioned.

who charges for posture? anyway, yeh that is what we are saying. that they should take the pics and give the best shots. and what im saying is that they shouldnt lie to their customers about rolls when in reality they are using a digi cam.

i'm not saying pro photographers aren't worth the money- of course you hire a professional to shoot your wedding because yes, you want quality pictures. however a photographer can't realistically limit the number of pictures they take, and you can't order a certain number either. that number depends on how good they are and how interesting the environment they are in- an excellent photographer might only need 100 shots with say, 80 of them coming out great, but theres no way of knowing that unless you keep shooting until the number of hours you have been hired for are through, and then you download the pics and look at them.
that ratio of total number of shots taken to number of good shots taken is what defines a photographer's skill and talent. you can't put a cap on that and tell people i'm only going to shoot 100 pictures, thats it. what if theres still stuff going on in the wedding? you're going to stop shooting and walk away because you're counting the shots you've been paid for? that IS dumb.
and in digital photography, how many pictures are in a "roll"?
most photogs here will say we estimate we'll take X amount of shots in the time you're hiring us for, but they don't charge customers based on number of shots- they charge them based on the time they've been hired for, usually an hourly rate, and then in that rate is included the time they spend shooting as well as the time they spend afterwards going through the pictures and editing them. prints are usually extra if you choose to order them from the photographer, but its not a requirement cos they give you the CD of all your digital images and you can make your own prints off it. that case of charging "per roll" when you're really shooting digitally is a case of someone being greedy and wanting to make as much money off the client as they can- and thats dishonourable and stupid.

every setting required different posture...so if u are going to their studio that will produce different quality, and different result whereas if u wana get ur shoot done at the location they have to bring all their lights, diffusers n bla bla to the location...which means load more work n load more hassle. i dont know about pakistan, but where i live photographer will charge its customer to get all these things to their place.

ps. do u know the difference between SLR and DSLR results? if not, does it matter which one they are using?

Re: Wedding Photography... karachi

of course it does!! digital photography is way more convenient to the customer and once they have their cd they can make as many prints as they want. its also possible to color correct those pictures and manipulate them as you want.
rolls of film tend to fade, you have to scan them if you want to email them to family or put them up online, and also photographers can hold them hostage and insist you make your prints with them instead of giving you the rolls and letting you make your own!
rolls of film are obsolete and need to go the same route as vcr's and walkman's.

^haha completely agree

taking 1000 or more pictures is not hard for photographer to take....if it is really a matter of only taking the pictures.
but if u want quality work and also wana make sure that what u paying, it actually deserves that, than the more u lower pictures quantity, the convenient it will be for u to monitor their quality.

that is why they set those guidelines...cuz dSLR massive spilling of amateur results already calling erosion of quality.

n now for uploading images...well u can get the hardcopy of any visible softcopy, or vice-versa. therefore, considering this factor is pointless until u are aware of SLR n dSLR results.

ps. taking photographs is only the first lesson of photography : )
nor it is about fps...it is about capturing every essence to the best of ur abilities of that time frame. n most of the time u create and freeze that frame.
