Why are people getting their panties up in a bunch? Yeah she posed nude for an INDIAN magazine. So what? Is she Pakistan or Islam’s ambassador? She can do what she wants, remember she’s not in Pakistan she’s in India (a secular and tolerant country). She isn’t representing Pakistan or Islam so let her do what she wants. I heard she’s getting death threats from Pakistan as well now

I did not say that Pakistanis are "ok" with it, but the amount of emotional outrage is not proportional, hence the comparison.
The fact is, many Pakistanis get more upset about women wearing revealing clothing than of children working, being exploited, than of abuse against women, than of the repression of minorities and the impoverished, than of prejudiced against the dark skinned. Many get so upset about women making any of their own choices, to the point where they will abuse or even kill them if they do. What kind of value system is this and what does it actually encourage?
So why not tolerate this "behavior"? Why is it a big deal? We don't have an epidemic of public nudity but yet we have all of these problems and we're much worse in measurable ways than many countries with a more lax, laissez faire attitude towards things of this nature....so why get your knickers riled up in a knot over this at all?
So what if I tell Pakistanis that posing nude is "okay". What exactly are the direct negative consequences of a woman's body on a magazine cover? Does it result in an explosion killing hundreds indiscriminately? Does it cause shortages of food?
What exactly are you so afraid of?
I have no problem telling Pakistanis what Veena did is okay and its their sensibilities that are not, because that's my point of view on the issue.
You're right. The outrage is expected, because I expect that Pakistan is a reactionary, tribal and immature society. But that offends me because I think it holds the country back and keeps it a backwater. The hostile reaction to her posing nude is exactly what offends me.
I don't know what Veena's motivation and I really don't care.....but ask me, yes, Islam and Pakistani conservative culture must be challenged, because they have been significant barriers to progression. They are among the reasons Pakistan is not an attractive place to live.

And by the way just scroll over to the pak affairs section and you will see heated discussions on the very things you poi Ted out above.

Lol, I didn't say I wanted anybody censored, banned, attacked or killed for differences in opinion or they are not free to be offended by whatever. That kind of response to me is reflective of an "immature and reactionary" person. Being offended doesn't mean that. It just means I strongly disagree. I presented the reasoning for my point of view, if you don't agree, so be it, but it's not based on an emotional or visceral response. I've thought it out and I haven't shoved my view down anyone's throat.

She is from Pakistan so what? Should she be posing with a burqa or suicide vest on? She posed for a magazine in return got money and fame. She didn't go to India to promote her roots, religion, nationality, culture etc. She went there because there were more opportunities for her there something that is non existent in Pak sar zameen.
I never hear condemnations coming from Pakistanis when some Pakistani goes to another country and blows himself up or butchers hundreds. How many Pakistanis condemned Ajmal Kasab and thought he was representing all of Pakistan?

Not very genuine, their advising, I must say.
Can't speak for others, but I wouldn't turn red in the face (too brown for that actually) as it's just not something that bothers me at all. I'd be upset if my children turned out to be someone like Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, Mumtaz Qadri, Haji Ayub Afridi, etc. than anything of this nature.

All sane Pakistanis condemned the Mumbai massacre. The event was so horrendous that no self-respecting Pakistani wanted to be associated with it and there was a ton of confusion about Kasab's identity (and the real story is still not clear). No Pakistani wants Pakistan to be represented through Kasab, but the Inidans call him a Pakistani terrorist - or don't they ? So even if we naively wish that Veena not represent Pakistan, she will still be representing Pakistan because she is Pakistani. That is simple logic. Far from garnering fame, she is only collecting condemnation and notoriety from all quarters.
How many Indians condemned the perpetrators of Samjhota Express when about 100 of your own country-men were barbecued in that train on India ki sar zameen ? There are only more than a billion of them. The real story of that events is also still not clear. That event pre-dates Mumbai.
Nobody is denying other problems in Pakistan and Pakistani society.
We are self-sufficient in criticizing ourselves.
Veena was mostly ignored for her 'boldness' so far.
This time she has crossed the line.
This thread is discussing that issue.
There are plenty of other threads open to discuss all other problems.

Am I a self hating Pakistani? No not at all. I do not hate Pakistan, I'm just pointing out the fact that there is no need to cry over what Veena did. There are bigger issues in society which need to be condemned. It's better to be tolerant than intolerant. I'm not a blind nationalist nor am I hardcore critic of Pakistan.
And as for me praising India, yes I praised their secular society, that's all I like about India. I am not some Indian lover that is desperately seeking appreciation from Indians.

This thread wouldn't be half as long if the ultra-liberals would stop defending Veena's 'God-given' right to be naked in public and pretending that India and Pakistan are two states located in Europe or America.
If she wants to practice nudism, she should do it in the privacy of her own home.

And I condemn the Muslim Pakistanis who think that they are somehow superior to their non-Muslim countrymen (dumb-asses). This attitude needs to be fixed through proper education, both religious and secular. Mullahs cannot do that. Educated and enlightened scholars like Ghamidi are needed. It can only be done when Pakistan stops spending so much on the military and projects like the 26-carore rupee President House kitchen renovation and divert those funds to education of general population and alleviation of poverty.
