Why talking in another forum about bangladeshis? whenever you got chance. Bangldesh was there in the past but it was not dirty. I remeber when i was young i have seen bangldesh/dhaka not dirty. India have had always populatuion problem and lack of cleansing. Please see your british raj pictures. Doesnt look like they knew whats cleaniless means.

Its not bangldeshis rather indian taking the open border gathering in bangldesh. Claiming everybody speaking bengali as bangldeshi is not right.

Epicurean, are you B'deshi? Sorry if your feelings are hurt. You're right not everyone who speaks bengali is B'deshi, but it's also true that we have millions of illegal B'deshis living in Gujrat, Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra. Along with our own 'dirty' natives they are really mucking up the darn cities.

errr, EU countries more or less the same size and economic strength? did they kick out portugal, greece, belgium, luxembourg etc? :) and what about the new entrants..forget about the old guard of EU..

Fraudia,

The main powers behind the EU are Germany and France and both of these countries are economically and geographically almost equal. Other smaller nations have their own reasons (esp. economic) of joining the EU, but these member counntries are not considered as important as France and Germany. When a smaller nation Poland decided to support the American policyof Iraq without considering the stance of Germany and France on that issue, the French government had strongly criticized their unilateral decision and threatened the Polish government saying that the final decision of accepting the Poland's memebership in the EU was still pending.

This is probably the worst idea from an Indian PM ever. I hope Advani takes over from Vajoo aftre next year's election.

^I hope so too. Advani is more practical and less emotional about foreign policy. Vajoo has learnt nothing from the last time he made peace overtures to Pak by visiting Lahore. Pak responded with Kargil. This time he is talking about open borders so all the Jihadis and their uncles can get into India. Are all those Indian Army personnel who sacrifice their lives protecting our borders in Kashmir doing it for this.

India will control our economy, if we have a single currency.
Indian economy and politcial stability compared to Pakistan is just too much. But we have to work out some plan to improve our economy and educational level.

Oh, so Vajpayee has finally decided that India will give up all of Kashmir (to Pakistan)? Interesting.

Anyhow we don't mind the idea of a single currency for all South Asia. I propose the Pakistani rupee to be that currency - maybe it can be renamed the 'Mughal rupee' in light of our historical ties? :)

Solah aaney sach !! Infact, I don't like the idea of having the same currency.. India and Pakistan have nothing in common - Pakistan has a much more vibrant economy.. better religion.. better people.. India is a third world poor country like China while Pakistan is not.. Why not Afghanistan and Pakistan have the same currency.. we are brothers.. I have proposed unification of Pak and Afghan in my rarlier threads..

That sounds totally non-sense ! Pakistan is way ahead than India - we have blessings of Allah that India doesn't have ! Pakistan has more than 50% of Punjabi population while India doesn't have that.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Good one!

So question. The x% of Muslims who make up India, well so is their religion also inferior?

I agree Pakistan is not like India and China, shall we compare it to Singapore then? I am sure the same standard of life is the same, and so is the infrastructure....

Snap out of your dreams, start doing something about it and maybe your vain delusions can be made a reality..

Re: Vajpayee proposes single currency for S. Asia

not a bad idea… only if we have common interests … which is unfortunately not the case… just forget the Kashmir for a moment… suppose there is no Kashmir issue among both countries but keeping both country’s economy, its totaly in India’s favour, because common currency also mean common market, which will be wide open for India… of course PAkistanis will get cheaper stuff but at their economy’s cost.

No, Germany is the largest economy in the EU, then the UK, France, Italy, Spain in that order. With the inclusion of ten new countries next year the balance of power will shift away from the so-called Franco-German axis.

^ I am not denying this fact, Germany is the biggest economy in the EU followed by GB and France. But compare their population, gni per capita, gdp or the surface area, these countries are more equal from this vantage point than Pak and India.

India's economy is not all it's upto what it is reported you know. You would be surprised to know that Pakistan's FDI level, exports etc compare pretty well to India - in fact (in proportion) even better. Plus as I said the idea of an economic free trade area/single currency should include Central Asian states, and others like Myanmar.

Who will control the interest rate and market float and exchange rates? Presumably a representative commission where people are appointed from all the member countries? The Papa Bear of the lot will definitely have a lot of clout.

Idea is intriguing. I am not sure, if it suits the smaller countries all that much, cz then they will lose quite a few fiscal and monetary tools which are in their hands right now to manage their economies.

It wont work. Because there is no trade between the existing South Asian countries. There is no political will. For gods sake how can you have a common currency, when your PTA isnt working. You cant establish a FTA and your two largest economies are locked an eternal feud? Veggie pie doesnt know jack.

This is stupider than the idea to have an FTA by 2008.

You guys must learn that there is no possibility to trade between South Asia. There is no compliementarity. All goods are the same. We have the same comparative advantages. The same labour costs etc. These countries should look else where. Areas where they are unique. Pakistan in the Arab world. Afghanistan as well.

India worldwide. Sri Lanka can trade anywhere as it is an island state. Bangladesh at ASEAN, but it is an LDC. So who knows.

Nepal and Bhutan India and Pakistan. No choice there. Oh yeah and China.
