Lakers Hire Rudy Tomjanovich as new Head Coach

[thumb=H]rudy10122_7577829.JPG[/thumb]

A proven winner, likeable guy, a fighter who beat cancer, got sober. This couldn’t have been better for L.A. No matter how Extremely Makeover Laker team look like next season, he’ll work his butt off.

Don’t ever underestimate the heart of Rudy. Welcome to LaLa Land. :slight_smile:

Spurs sign Brent Barry for 4-year deal, worth of between $ 22-24 mil

[thumb=H]act_brent_barry10122_8745510.JPG[/thumb]

Dayum, Spurs are having the best off-sesaon. Brent barry is ridiculously efficient. I think he shot over 40% or something like that from the arc last year, and he’s done it before. Plus side is that he an also play 1/2 and 3 spots for stretches.

He’s Superman’s Steve Kerr essentially, a class act! A great move by the Spurs!

Carlos Boozer to Jazz for 6 years, $68 Million deal

[thumb=H]act_carlos_boozer10122_9713366.JPG[/thumb]

There is no integrity in pro sports these days. If it’s not in writing, it’s nothing.

Regardless, Boozer is a perfect fit for the Jazz. They should picked him last year anyway, instead of Pavlovic, who ironically, the Cavs have now anyway. :hehe: He is a monster on the inside, and similar to Karl Malone is many ways. He is also a good match with Okur. With Boozer banging on the inside, Memo is free to step outside a bit more on offense as he does well. Another plus is that Boozer has a good injury record.

The Jazz will be back in the playoffs next year!

Can't believe miami is giving up three above average players and a first round draft pick for Shaq. Atleast get some thing else.

PakT:
I am a Rockets fan. Providing they can sign Yao to a long term deal after this season, I think they are headed in the right direction. They really need an unselfish point guard who can play some pressure defense.

About Rudy T with the Lakers: I think he'd be great if the Lakers had Shaq. Without Shaq, hmmm .... I wonder. Rudy was quite successful devising a winning offense when he had Hakeem. He wasn't very successful trying to convert to a guard oriented offense. He's never successfully installed a real up-tempo offense.

He's a hard worker. He's intelligent. He's a nice guy. He handles egos well. I'm just not sure the team in LA without Shaq is his kind of team.

^^

If it wasn’t Rudy’s kind of team, he wouldn’t have been reclutant to coach L.A. in the first place. Jerry Buss must have acknowledged him before the Shaq deal was done.

Big Diesel rolls to Miami - Odom, Butler, Grant and first round pick to L.A.

Goodbye Shaquille. :teary3:

Ah man, it hurts. Jerry Buss butcherd dynasty. Shaq is the man of steel and Wade has the speed and can fly for a dunk. Damn, Heat strangled L.A.

I don’t think the Lakers have any tradition left.

Other than Magic, I don’t think the Lakers franchise ever foster any warm feelings from the players that have passed through there.

In Boston the former Celtics legends still feel like Celtics. I don’t know if we have that with the Lakers.

Russell, Cousy, Heinsohn, Ainge, Bird, Havelicek, Cowens, those guys still feel the loyalty and reverance, for the Celtics tradition. They’ve always kept Auerbach as part of the tradition.

We won’t even let Kareem or Cooper be coaches or scouts here.
Am I wrong are the Lakers sensitive of what the Lakers have meant over the years?

Shaq, the greatest CENTER to ever play for the Lakers, yes I’m putting him above Kareem and Wilt will never consider himself a Laker again.

Jerry West was cast off for Phi Jackson whom we cast off also. I’ve been a Lakers fan since '88. I feel like I have a piece of the complete Lakers tradition but I don’t think I do now right by Lake legends.

Jerry West would have never allowed this thinking to happen. I hate long-term business! This is like when the Celtics stripped Red of his president title to give it to Pittino.

r u kiddin..??? can u find another shaq.. anywhere else.. comon... Shaq and Wade....Miami is going to the finalz.. (atleast i hope)

some toronto newspaper had an article about a possible trade that woulld invole raps, mavs nad the knicks. Supposebly, vince will end up in dallas, antoine walker in new york and kirk thomas and dikembe mutombe in T.O.
babcock has denied and replied by saying that he would like vince to stay here. rumour has it that vince wants the chairman of the raptors franchise to resign but this is prolly nothing more than a rumour since a chairman has no affect on the players on the court.
ne who, i hope this trade never happens as it will be a disaster for the raps.

Lakers fan since 1988? Sachi? You were watching LA Lakers play ball at the age of 7 in Pakistan? Mind if I ask when was PTV showing this?

Fess up PT, who's words are you copying and from where?

Sachi Muchi. :smiley: Since the day I saw Magic playing ball, I became the fan of him and Lakers for Life. When I was 7, our family visited the U.S. of A. Rest is history.

..and when you talk about Magic, you can’t ignore Bird. So, there was inside dish for y’all homiez about Celtics. :roman:

Hmmm..........
daal mein kuch kala hai. ;)

Ok.... so here's another rumour involving Vince getting traded. Apparently, he will accompany team mate jalen rose to New Orleans for Toronto native Jamaal Magloire and P.J. Brown and cash. If that deal takes shape, i think it will be safe to say that toronto will spend another season without making the playoffs. If this deal doesn't take place, chances of vince staying in toronto are becoming pretty thin nonetheless. He has now made his intentions clear about him wanting out of t.o. because of CEO Paddie. Before his Charity game takes place on july 30 in air canada centre, vince has made arrangments for a light plane to fly over which will have a banner saying "Keep Vince, Trade Paddie", which is less likely than the other way around.

OK. I think both the ceo and vince need to speak clearly in public and dont hide anything. As of now, chances of vince staying are pretty high and the ceo will also stay in the organization. The CEO will have nothing to do with basketball operations so vince and him wont have to interact with each other at all. All the power will be shifted to GM Babcock.

I think you might as well fire the CEO and save some much needed cash.

Let vince go man. If Maagloire came back to TO he would be the man. The guy would become a superstar....
but that deal will never happen,, it was a pure rumour.

Right on elahi. Jamal Maglorie deal will never happen. It's not that he doesn't match the value of Vince but is that Hornets will never give up him. When Byron Scott was hired by New Orleans, first thing he said that he came to Hornets because of Jamal. He likes up and down, fastbreak kinda game and Hornets will definitely become since they have moved to the Western Conference.

Plus, you forget about Vince getting out of TO because Babs ain't gonna give him up. He understands the importance of Vince better than avg. GM in NBA. He didn't become HOF by a fluke, you know.

What the hell. I completely forgot about this thread. I remembered this when i was talking to my friend about some NBA stuff.

So anyways, the latest mentionable NBA news is that Jamal Mashburn will mis the entire 2004-2005 season due to his knee. He has had knee problems for quite a while now and it hasn't shown any improvements over the time. It is also a possibility that he would never play again and his career might be over.
Really sad.

It’s sad. I was really looking forward for Hornets franchise as to what they bring out in the next season till I heard this news.

Jammal can’t even walk without experiencing pain, and he doesn’t even sound optimistic about playing anytime soon.

Team trainers said that several MRIs this summer indicated that Mashburn has worn out cartilage in his right knee, causing bones to grind together, leaving a bruise and an irritation. Mashburn and the Hornets said that with rest, the irritation could heal, but they acknowledged there would be a good possibility of re-aggravating the injury if he tried to play again.

“I’m hoping with a rest and a lack of pounding, things will heal themselves and maybe there’s a possibility in a year or so,” Mashburn said. “I just have to take a wait-and-see approach. There’s not a particular thing I can do. I’ve been trying everything. It’s a frustrating situation.”
