If you will read and understand Islam, you will realise that all belongs to Allah and we are caretaker of whatever we have, from wealth, abilities, to health. Further, we learn that Allah wants people to share whatever we have and take care of each other as part of our test in this world.
Socialism is same, where people are taught to share whatever they have and look after the needs of each other.
Difference is that:
In Islamic socialism, we share because it is what Allah wants. Here, observing body is Allah who monitors and his reward and punish would come after death.
In socialism, sharing is done in the name of humanity and equality of humans. Here, monitoring body is state that makes sure sharing is done and equality amongst people is maintained.
In history, we see socialism in practice when people of Madina shared whatever they had with migrants of Mecca.
Nationalisation: From what I know, the first person in history who took away lands to redistribute it amongst poor was Umar bin Abdul Aziz. One of his legislation was that, state can take away (nationalise) agricultural lands from those who do not cultivate them for 3 years, and redistribute those lands to those who would cultivate.
I believe, his legislation was on pretext that lands belong to Allah and people who hold them are only caretakers. Allah made cultivation as purpose of those lands, so if someone who is caretaker (owner) of those lands and are not cultivating, they are not doing the job what caretaker should do, and hence as Khalifa of Allah, he can take over those lands and redistribute them to those who would cultivate.
You can consider that as first Nationalisation in history (that was done for good of people).
Unfortunately, most nationalisation these days (or what Bhutto did) do not have any good in them for people, and thus I believe is not Islamic nor good for the country or people.
Anyhow, if any nationalisation is done for redistribution that would be good for people and country, then I would appreciate it.
