KARACHI, Feb 20: More than 6,000 student visas were issued by the United Kingdom in the country in 2003, British Council Director Charlie Walker said on Friday.
“Whilst continuing to promote exchange between Britain and Pakistan in higher education, we also facilitate the placement of students wishing to study in the UK,” he said. He said that he was delighted to hear from the British high commission’s visa section that in 2003 more than 6,000 student visas were issued.
Mr Walker said the figure showed more than 200 per cent increase as compared to the previous year and represented the highest number of student visas issued in a year. He said more British university representatives were coming to Pakistan to recruit students. -APP http://www.dawn.com/2004/02/21/top11.htm

Does anybody have any idea about US student visas. Is it easy to get them these days?

Islamabad, after 9/11 its become harder. However, it depends, when I applied for a student visa, I got it without an interview, probably because Ive been to the US (as a visitor) numerous times. However, if your name matches that of someone on their terror watch list, then it can even take upto 2 years to get cleared, trust me, a friend ran into this problem. Even though the US probably issued more students visas than the UK, considering the amount of universities there and the size of the country, the trend has definitely changed due to these visa restrictions. The new trend seems to be the UK and more importantly, Australia!
