UK Birth Stories

Re: UK Birth Stories

OMG that’s so sad…stupid idiot nurses/midwives. Were they blind that they couldn’t see the cord around baby’s neck?

It’s not one of the best then, is it?

Long Island Jewish.. it is a good hospital. Because of being in NYC hospitals are sometimes very busy and everything is pretty much on availability basis. I had to share a room… a huge room that had six beds and only two patients. Both of our babies we’re in NICU so it was pretty peaceful.

Interesting you said so because I was thinking about it.

I gave birth in a small town hospital and we had our own private room, in fact my mom and husband stayed there first two nights- they had an extra bed in room for husband but also brought in a recliner for my mom to sleep in the room.

Three weeks later, I had a surgery in one of the biggest and expensive hospitals in the state and I had to share the room for one day until they moved me out for privacy. But I know people who gave birth in that hospital and didnt have to share the room but I guess its a possibility even here. I wont like it though!

Happened with my sister too. She gave birth in small town small hospital and got private room and everything else. Me, Long Island Jewish, huge hospital, extremely busy, had to share room.

Re: UK Birth Stories

uk birth stories! why r people talking about US stories then! anyway both my kids delivered nomal delivery, midwives wre excellent, loved them. they gave me confidence when i nearly had a heart attack about almost everythn. esp my first child, i didnt want to change nappy or feed her or even pick her up incase ibdropped her or somethn happened. was too shocked at how they could let me look after a small baby ALL by myself?!!! icried and demanded my husband to stay- obv he wasnt allowed to- so had tonwait til 7am the next day for him- i rang him at 6.45 telln him to get his @rsss outta the house NOW! he was there at 7:05. first time inwas in labour 22 hours! i wasnt able to push my mind went blank and nothn wasncoming to me. so they gave me epidural and15 mins later baby out!

2nd time was better. labour only6 hours. and midwives all lovely and smiley.

Re: UK Birth Stories

DaffyDuck why are u so scared of UK delivery, from what I’ve heard it’s much better over here in the UK as compared to Pakistan. They emphasise more on giving natural birth as compared to just cutting you open when you don’t really need to have a cesarean.

Re: UK Birth Stories

Both times I’ve had great experiences with the midwives & health visitors, they’re ever so helpful & caring. Just remember, if you won’t ask you won’t get.

Re: UK Birth Stories

my first appointment with the doctor is on 22nd of december so what are those things i should already know and ask? and how to go about the whole process with the mid wives/ doc to make the process as smooth and easy for me?

ps. shifted to uk last year so i might sound naive about loads of things…apologies for that

Re: UK Birth Stories

Daffy, I myself gave birth in the US but was born in the UK myself. Yes, obviously it was a while ago but still my mom had a very good experience and everyone was loving and caring. People in the western world are taught to have a good bedside manner, yes, all of them don’t have that but the majority are polite while this is not the focus in Pakistan. Maybe you could ask your mom to come and stay with you a little while before giving birth and thereafter to help you out?

Re: UK Birth Stories

Go to a birthing centre. You get your own room, bathroom, a bed for a partner to stay.. Your not hooked to anything so you are free to walk about and it’s nothing clinical, really calm and private.. You can’t hear anyone and nobody can hear you. Amazing experience .
