I always wanted to learn French but i could'nt because i never carried on with french language course at college so i forgot whatever i did managed to learn in school :(

Of course DarkNight ! in this world, i think it’s necessary to be more than bi-lingual… if you want to quickly rise to positions of authority on an international scale…

Switzerland has two national languages (french and german) and a lot of other secular languages like romansch etc… i think it could be good for you to learn conversational french (as geneva is french speaking) and once you’re there insh’allah then your french should improve, as you’ll be speaking it on a dAily basis with your new buddies

What are you doing your research in? Is the move to geneva final? As if you’re this anxious about language barriers, i would reconsider.. anyway i think the geneva institute teaches in english… ???

I m planing to do my phd in computer security ... frm swiss .... 2nd option is UK ....coz my bro is there too ... but its alittle bit more expensive as compared to swiss ... n probability of getting scholarship is more ....n the most imp thing is ... m trying to go on my company sponsorship :p

Ohhh i thought you were doing a HND at college… so i think you’re doing a BTEC then?

Shazzy, trust me, unless you have excellent entrepeneurial skills, i would seriously re-think about Uni. Degrees are usually only 3 years (unless you take an extra year for industrial placement which is extremely beneficial)… and what’s another 3 years to enhance your career prospects?? There such a variety of courses out there… you can choose theory based or courses that are more ‘hands on’… i would speak with your parents ASAP, they may be able to help and give you some clarity… did your college not provide you with a careers advisor?? This country is so not taking care of its young generation

Yeah i am doing Btec because none of the local college were offering students HND …

BTEC is not that bad and once i pass this diploma next year it should be fine. It’s equal to 3 A-levels anywayz…

InshAllah i am aiming for a Distinction (overall grade) and my plan is to pass this & next year and get training or do a private course.

But it’s just my thinking and i don’t think my parents will back me up …i still have until this september to make a final decision. And during this time i am gona research more on universities and see if they can inspire me enough to join them But first thing first i need to speak to parents first regarding this…

Went to London Metropolitan University two weeks ago, it was nice and they did tell us a lot about courses and what the life will be like in uni. Most courses as you said last 3 years and some 4…

Anywayz thanks Maroush for the advice, i am now re-considering my decision and as for the French you better teach me
