I just went to Istanbul 3 weeks ago. It was pretty expensive. Our hotel stay for a regular room was $275/night but the regular rate was $600/night, we got a discount through work. Everytime we went for dinner, just two people, husband and I, it was over $150. A glass of coke cost $15 (most expensive coke I’ve ever had). Barely anyone speaks english. If anyone is planning to go to Turkey just make sure you bargain pretty much everywhere, cuz they will try to rip you off. Even when you are in cabs, you don’t have to pay them the amount on the meter, just negotiate with them before you get in the cab or they will rip you off. In addition, they love pakis, if you tell them you are from Pakistan they will probably say, oh thats my brother country. We went to a few different places and the food was phenomenal. Kosebasi was reasonably priced, it’s a meatlover’s paradise. Another restaurant I loved was Reina, it is amazing, but also very pricey. BTW even the McDonald’s and Burger King in Istanbul are more pricey than the ones in NY.
I’ve also been to Cairo, not nearly as expensive but they also rip you off. I feel like whenever you go to a third world country, you can bargain.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?? $150 meal for two, $15 bottle of coke? I think we’ll just fast when we are there. I cant justify such an expensive meal no matter what!!
