I've been to 21 different countries so far. I'd like to mention my favourites based on different criteria:
Beauty of the land: Austria, Switzerland and Northern Areas of Pakistan
Shopping: Dubai (UAE)
Sightseeing: Vienna (Austria) and London (England)
Food: Lahore (Pakistan)
I would reccomend South Africa for variety of experiences...everything from the Safari's to the shopping, to the Western Style shopping centres, to the asian influences........and the beaches are each different.
Dubai for shopping and being touristy..........nothing off the beaten track, everything "perfect"
Tunisia for being touristy - little to no interaction with anyone asian (except other tourists) and a real chance to just do whatever.....
Goa - to experience the "off the beaten track" aspects.....although, I would recommend staying in one of the mediterranean inspired resorts and taking day trips. In Goa you meet people from all over the world and each person recommends yet another tourist spot - a great way to discover real Goa.....
And for real spiritual replensihment from a holiday...why not perform Umraah - at the same time you get to do some sightseeing (Ziyarat), shopping (Mecca and Medina are both great for shopping as is Jeddah), and you get to savour the roots of Islam, meet people from all over the world who are united by one common rule - Islam...............
Closer to home, if you are in the UK, why not discover England, Scotland and Wales .... even Ireland.....the Devon/Dorset coast, Lake District, Peak District and Cotswolds...hire a cottage and savour real British countryside...
For North Americans (those who can afford) i would recommend Spain especially Andalucia, Cities like Cordoba, Grenada (Alhambra) , Rondo r a must to visit if u r into Islamic History.
If living in Europe u can get a good deal for around €350 - €400 (3*-4* Hotel and Flight)
Also recommendable are Madrid and Barcelona with the latter one known to be a real tourists attraction.
Further u can visit Gibraltar (Jabb'el'Tariq) and if Time and wallet allows even Morocco which is only 3/4 hours Ferry journey away
I went there with Wife and Kid in Dec 2006. Whether is just fine with around 20°C and a lot of sunshine.
Food is no problem (although a touch expensive coz a lot of tourists come there) as u'll find all sort of cuisines: Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Italian etc. etc.
best way to visit all the historical places and tourists attractions is to rent a car as gasoline is rather cheap in comparison to rest of Euope. But if u travel alone i would suggest u take Bus or Train as like in Pakistan u can travel at a good rate between differebt cities.
Cheapest time to stay (Hotel) is November, December and January.
We got a 4* Star Hotel with all inclusive, a really nice Hotel, Clean and not the typical Tourist class crap.
People r very warm towards Tourist and quite helpful.
I have been to 12 different countries. Of course each place has its own attraction but if you want to do a little bit of everything (sight seeing, historical places, food, shopping, beaches, fun etc), SINGAPORE is the place to go. I have been there more than once and want to go again !
Best place to see in the world is Northern kashmir if you like like scenic snow-laden mountains with rivers, and creeks flowing from fresh melted snow, and pine forests as far as the eye can see. You arent going to find much shopping areas, but you will find nature as it was intedned to be. And if you are into historical places, northern kashmir is the place for you.
in europe, my favourite country to tour was Italy.
i just returned from a 3 month trip to India during which I visited abt 20 cities in the north, north-west and the south. some of my pics are at lightscameraaction.shutterfly.com if u wanna see. it was a mixed bag of fun - deserts, beaches, scenic places, wild life safaris, historical tours, palaces and havelis... i traveled alone, and it was safe and more fun than i thought it would be.
i loved italy, I spent one term studying there.
Noree it deoends how long you are going for.
If you have a week, you can have an great time in Italy even if you just skim through the cities.
fly into Rome, much to see there, u can do a 2 day trip out to Capri, stop on the way to Herclaneum and Pompei. you really need to stop at heculaneum and/or pompei for a few hours, u can leave Rome early morning and be in Capri by evening. pompei is right by naples, and then from naples you will take the fery to capri, dont waste time in naples.
take a night train, sleeper to Venice, spend a day there take a night train/sleeper back into Rome, unless you go to Florence instead and then spend a day there and take train it back to Rome.
This type of intenirary is built based on doing a lot of things in a short time, however if u want to really enjoy and take it easy, I would rather do rome/capri/pompei seprately, there is more than enough add ischia to your itinerary.
and then do venice/florence/pisa etc as a different trip. you can do milan too, but I am not a big fan of Milan overall.
nooree, are you planning to do the tour on your own? when i went to europe, i went with cosmostours.com, i'd highly recommend them. again, even if you go alone, you're with a bus-ful of like minded ppl, and u end up making some friends...
in italy, i covered Venice, Florence, Pisa, Verona and Rome in a week.
mental note - talk to fraudz bhai before the next trip to italy..
Turkey is beautiful, the people are very friendly and exra friendly towards Pakistanis..the only off-putting thing is the nangay and drunkered goras (Brits) slobbering all over the south coast spoiling the view. Kos was absolutely beautiful.
