Re: Tragic Losses To Our Shared Human Heritage

I didn't get your question, Buddhas being Islamic or their destruction?

Re: Tragic Losses To Our Shared Human Heritage

There is nothing Islamic in such destruction, though many would consider it Islamic.

I was talking of the statement: Placed at a crucial waypoint next to the fabled Silk trading route, *these cultural landmarks were a testimony to the exchanging of Indian, Roman, Hellenistic and Islamic ideas for hundreds of years. *

Re: Tragic Losses To Our Shared Human Heritage

^ nothing Islamic or roman in that. Maybe he meant that the silk route has been a source of all these varied cultures in the region.

Destroyed under the orders of Emperor Titus in 77 AD and jews were expelled, it took them 2000 years to reclaim the holy land, they got it in year 1973. It is wonderful city, full of history. I love this city, as eternal as my delhi :)

probably Writer meant about all religions that existed in this region, Hinduism, Alexander's governers and Islam. It is said that Pathans were Buddhist before Islam came and they had made this idols, well Buddhism is very weak in India, but stronger all around India :D
